In an exclusive revelation, a former colleague of Denise Welch has claimed the Loose Women panelist possesses a hidden talent perfectly suited for a career beyond the ITV daytime show. Comedian Lee Peart, who worked as the studio warm-up act for the popular programme for eight years, believes Welch's exceptional storytelling abilities would make her a natural fit for the stand-up comedy circuit.
From Soap Star to Potential Stand-Up Sensation
Denise Welch first rose to prominence through her memorable portrayal of Natalie Barnes on Coronation Street, followed by significant roles in Waterloo Road and Hollyoaks. More recently, she has diversified her entertainment portfolio by releasing a Christmas song, demonstrating her versatility across multiple creative fields. However, according to Peart, her most promising untapped potential lies in live comedy performance.
A Natural Raconteur with Thespian Flair
Speaking exclusively to the Mirror, Lee Peart elaborated on Welch's unique abilities. "The thing with Denise is that woman can tell a story. Oh, my God, she is a raconteur," he enthused. "I would love to see Denise Welch do stand up, because honestly, she tells a story, she weaves it through. She's a true thespian. I adore her."
Peart acknowledged that Welch's outspoken nature sometimes attracts criticism, noting that "she gets a lot of stick as well, because she speaks her mind and that can be divisive to people." Nevertheless, he maintained unwavering admiration for her talents, declaring: "I just think she's so fab. And no one can tell a story quite like Denise."
Behind the Scenes of Loose Women
Having left his Loose Women position earlier this year following a show restructure, Peart offered insights into the programme's working environment. Contrary to sensationalized reports, he confirmed that the panelists maintain positive professional relationships. "I would love to say the group was full of drama during my time with them," he joked before admitting they all get along well. He particularly praised their collective work ethic and dedication to the show.
New Ventures and Creative Partnerships
Since departing Loose Women, Lee Peart has embarked on several exciting projects. He is currently touring with fellow comedian Judi Love, describing the experience as tremendously enjoyable. "She's just so fun, and she's just so naturally funny, and her audience is brilliant," he remarked. "They just want to come out, have fun, have a laugh. Forget about the world for an hour or two and it's great."
Additionally, Peart has launched a successful podcast titled 'Bottoms Up!' with close friend and comedian Alan Carr. Described as a "passion project" featuring "wine, gossip and chaos," the podcast involves location-based interviews with various celebrities. "We're thrilled with how it's gone," Peart gushed. "And, I mean, it's just such a laugh. I think Alan Carr is the funniest man alive. He is just so quick, just so fun."
Regarding their dynamic, Peart explained: "I like to think that I kind of steady the ship sometimes, because otherwise it's just chaos. We're absolutely chaotic in the best way possible. So we just tried to make it as accessible as possible, taking the snobbery out of wine. But also, you know, we're doing cocktails, we've brought some cider in and we're doing non alcoholic too."
As both Peart and Welch continue to expand their careers in entertainment, this endorsement highlights the diverse pathways available to established television personalities. Whether Welch ultimately pursues stand-up comedy remains to be seen, but according to someone who worked closely with her for nearly a decade, she possesses all the necessary qualities to excel in this demanding performance arena.
