Gordon Ramsay's Netflix Series Fuels Feud with Adam Peaty's Family
Caroline Peaty was left devastated last year when she was disinvited from her son Adam's wedding to Holly Ramsay in December. Now, in Gordon Ramsay's new Netflix series Being Gordon Ramsay, the TV chef appears to take another swipe at the Peaty family as he emphasises the importance of creating one's own family.
Family Feud Escalates on Netflix
Gordon Ramsay stated in the documentary: 'The most important family is the one you create and she comes from an incredible family so its now her time to create her own family. It is quite a moment.' This comment has been interpreted as a direct reference to the ongoing rift with Adam Peaty's biological family.
Embroiled in a bitter family feud, the Olympian swimmer's sister Bethany was the only family member to attend the wedding. Adam has faced criticism from his working-class relatives, who have accused him of being seduced by the wealth and fame of the Ramsay dynasty.
Adam Peaty's Omission of His Family
In the Netflix episode released on Wednesday, Adam Peaty gushed over his love for Gordon Ramsay but notably failed to mention his own family. He told cameras: 'I think when you are marrying someone you are also marrying into the family and for me Gordon is very fair, very respectful but also loves a good joke. We're very similar.'
The documentary includes footage from the couple's engagement party, filmed months prior to the family feud at one of Gordon's Bread Street Kitchen restaurants. Caroline Peaty was in attendance at this event, and in one sweet shot she is seen embracing Holly.
Caroline Peaty's Attempt to Be Edited Out
It was previously revealed that Caroline Peaty, 60, would still feature in the new series despite formally requesting to be edited out from the final cut. A source close to Caroline disclosed she had written to Netflix producers stating she was not asked for her consent to be filmed and, given the circumstances, did not wish to appear.
While she isn't shown face-on, the shot captures one of her final sweet moments with her future daughter-in-law before relations turned sour. In his engagement party speech, Gordon began: 'I couldn't be happier to welcome Adam and George into the Ramsay family. Are you mad? Holly is everything you want in an amazing woman.'
Adam's Emotional Tribute to Gordon
Adam also expressed his emotions, saying: 'Obviously I knew I wanted to marry Hol, and I knew that because without getting emotional and I like to get emotional, Holly brings me a peace I've never had in all aspects of my life.' He made a point of thanking Holly's father, adding: 'Gordon thank you for trusting me with your beautiful daughter. I'm just very glad that you didn't say no when I asked for permission to marry her.'
The feeling appears mutual, with Gordon describing Adam as 'so grounded' and noting: 'He's not walking around as an Olympic champion with his head up his a**e. He's my type of guy.'
Ramsay Family's Warm Welcome
Holly's sister Tilly reflected on how Holly instantly fell in love with the swimmer, recalling: 'I think I saw her the day after her date and I remember her being like "Oh my God, I love Adam". They just seemed to instantly bond and click.'
Meanwhile, Holly's mother Tana added: 'It's happened very naturally welcoming Adam into our family and he comes with this incredible bonus that's his little boy George.'
Gordon's Emotional Struggle
Father to three daughters, Gordon was overcome with emotion discussing the upcoming nuptials, telling cameras: 'My little girl is disappearing. I can't believe we are going to see her walk down the aisle. Yeah it's going to be a tough one.... I'm gonna be a sack of s**t man.'
He later admitted: 'I didn't think she would be married so quickly.... Of course she's ready but my problem is she's ready but we are not. I think that's a hard thing as her dad.'
Wedding Speech Controversy
Gordon's wedding speech hit headlines back in January when The Sun reported that in his father of the bride speech he commented on how beautiful Holly looked and told Adam he was a 'lucky man', adding: 'Look at Tana and that's what you have to look forward to.' The publication claimed Gordon couldn't resist a sly dig at Adam's absent parents, telling his daughter Holly: 'Shame you don't have the same.'
It was later revealed that Adam's estranged mother had been left 'outraged' and 'hurt' by these remarks. Following the show's release, Caroline shared a social media post about 'children being loved without expectation', which read in part: 'When a child is loved without expectation, self-worth becomes internal, not negotiated.'
Gordon's Personal Reflections
Elsewhere in the documentary, Gordon reflected on how his 'torrid' relationship with his alcoholic father has shaped his own journey with fatherhood. He said: 'I, sadly, had a torrid relationship with my father. My father called me a snob once. And I said, "No, definitely not a snob. I just want to get out of the s**t mess I was born in."'
Gordon, who is worth an estimated £162 million, lived in 15 different council estates, with his mother juggling three jobs to keep the family afloat. He recalls weekends where he would 'almost watch his father ruin his life through alcohol'.
Family Guilt and Addiction
He also revealed he struggles with a 'guilt complex' after watching his younger brother Ronnie battle heroin addiction for much of his adult life. Gordon told viewers: 'I have a brother who's a heroin addict. We shared a bunk bed, he's 15 months younger than me, and he's been an addict for the last four decades. I've gone to hell and back with him and so I have a guilt complex. That could have been me, it could have been switched.'
Tana's Perspective
This week, Tana revealed what she said to Adam's estranged mother before he married her 'vulnerable' daughter Holly. She told Grazia: 'I remember saying to Adam's mum when I met her. "My God, you've got the most amazing son. I couldn't think of anyone that is more perfect for Holly, who's incredibly emotional, incredibly vulnerable in areas."'
She added: 'She's funny, brilliant and witty but she also needs keeping in line. Adam manages to do all those things. He's been through a lot. She's been through a lot. I remember saying to his mum that, in my mind, he's perfect for our daughter.'
Defending the Speech
A family source previously told the Daily Mail that Caroline believed Gordon had 'pre-planned' the cruel swipe against her, calling it 'cruel' and 'very hurtful'. However, Gordon doubled down on his speech when appearing on This Morning, insisting that what he had to say at the wedding reception was 'perfect and warm'.
Daughter Tilly admitted she had listened to the speech ahead of the big day, saying: 'I think it was Christmas Eve, I was sat in his room for an hour as he was just reading through it. Going through everything but no tweaks were needed, it was perfect. It made everybody cry.'
Holly's Defense
Holly also defended her father's speech despite Caroline's outrage, saying she felt 'overwhelmed with happiness' during it. In an interview with British Vogue, Holly shared a photo of herself and Adam smiling and laughing during Gordon's speech, captioning it: 'Listening to dad's speech, looking around the room and feeling overwhelmed with the love and the happiness on our guests' faces.'
In another apparent jibe at the estranged Peaty family, Holly revealed that her parents paid for their luxurious honeymoon to Mauritius, describing it as their 'wedding present'. She added: 'We're going to Mauritius to just lie by the sea – that was our wedding present from my parents.'
