Strictly Come Dancing Star Layton Williams Makes 'Tough Decision' to Withdraw from Stage Show

Strictly Come Dancing favourite Layton Williams has announced his withdrawal from the upcoming stage production of Kiss of the Spider Woman, describing the move as an incredibly tough decision. The 31-year-old actor and dancer was set to play the role of Molina but has been replaced by Fabian Soto Pacheco after stepping down from the show.

Instagram Announcement and Apology to Fans

Williams broke the news to his followers via Instagram Stories, posting alongside a cast poster: "Unfortunately, I've had to withdraw from this incredible show! Wishing this gorgeous cast all the very best for a fab run." He then shared an official statement, elaborating on his reasons for leaving.

"Walking away from this production was an incredibly tough decision and not one I made lightly," Williams wrote. "What Director Paul and the team are putting together is truly magical, but an opportunity arose that I simply couldn't turn down. While I'm sad to be leaving the show, I know the production is going to be absolutely incredible, and I'm sending all my love to the company, including Fabian, who is going to make a remarkable Molina."

Gratitude and Future Collaborations

The BBC One star extended his thanks to the production teams at Curve, Bristol Old Vic, and Mayflower Southampton, stating: "I'll forever be indebted to you and hope we can collaborate again in the future." He also encouraged fans to still book tickets, calling the show "unmissable."

In a subsequent Instagram story, Williams apologised directly to supporters who had booked tickets specifically to see him, including his grandparents. "Lastly...Apologies to any loyal fans who booked tickets to see me personally. I so appreciate your love and support. Even my grandparents booked and are still excited about seeing the show, bless them. So I urge ya'll please to do the same," he said, hinting that he would later share the full story behind his decision.

Production Team's Response and Show Schedule

Chris Stafford, Curve's chief executive, and Nikolai Foster, the artistic director, issued a joint statement on behalf of the co-producers: "Acclaimed director Paul and his team have brought together a phenomenal company and whilst we are sorry to see Layton leave the production, we wish him every continued success. Layton has enjoyed a long relationship with our audiences, and we very much look forward to welcoming him back to Curve in the future."

The production is scheduled to begin in Leicester in April, before moving to Bristol and concluding in Southampton.

Current Engagements and Strictly Come Dancing History

Currently, Williams is performing as a special guest on the Strictly Come Dancing Tour, reuniting with his dance partner Nikita Kuzmin for shows across the country. He first competed on Strictly Come Dancing in 2023, reaching the final with Kuzmin, where they were narrowly defeated by former Coronation Street actress Ellie Leach and her partner Vito Coppola.

Following his initial Strictly success, Williams joined the live tour in 2024, with his current stint marking his second time touring with the Strictly troupe. His departure from Kiss of the Spider Woman comes as he balances multiple professional commitments, though the specific opportunity prompting his withdrawal remains undisclosed for now.
