Strictly Come Dancing professional Nadiya Bychkova has expressed concerns over her future on the show, as the BBC dance competition grapples with a series of misconduct allegations. The Ukrainian dancer, who joined Strictly in 2017, reportedly fears she may be dropped from the upcoming series amid the fallout from scandals involving fellow pros Giovanni Pernice and Graziano Di Prima.
Bychkova's worries come as the BBC tightens its duty of care protocols following complaints from former contestants. Actress Amanda Abbington, who was partnered with Pernice in 2023, claimed she developed PTSD after her experience, describing rehearsals as “tough” and “horrible.” She later met with Pernice’s former partners Ranvir Singh and Laura Whitmore to discuss their “difficult experiences.”
Pernice has denied allegations of abusive behaviour, stating he is “passionate and competitive” and looks forward to clearing his name. However, the BBC confirmed he would not return for the 2024 series. Meanwhile, Graziano Di Prima was sacked after footage emerged of his conduct with partner Zara McDermott, who said she feared “public backlash” and “victim shaming” if she spoke out.
In response to the controversies, the BBC announced that future Strictly stars will be assigned chaperones during all rehearsals. The broadcaster has not commented on Bychkova's status, but insiders suggest the ongoing turmoil may lead to further changes in the professional lineup.
