Prue Leith Makes Dazzling Catwalk Appearance at London Fashion Week

Dame Prue Leith, the celebrated television chef and judge, has traded her kitchen apron for high fashion as she graced the runway at London Fashion Week. At 86 years old, Prue showcased a vibrant and head-turning look that captured the attention of the audience and media alike.

A Striking Fashion Statement

Prue Leith made her appearance at the Vin+Omi show, held at The Art'otel in Hoxton. She donned a striking orange blazer adorned with extravagant ruffles, paired with a dramatic floral display in her hair. The ensemble was completed with a pair of red trainers and her signature quirky glasses, featuring red and purple frames, adding a playful touch to the sophisticated outfit.

In backstage photographs, Prue appeared in great spirits, full of life and energy as she prepared to strut down the catwalk. Her look adhered to the themes of nature, blending bold colors with floral accents to create a memorable fashion moment.

Celebrity Support from Bake Off Pals

Prue was not alone in her fashion venture. She received enthusiastic support from fellow Great British Bake Off stars Matt Lucas and Alison Hammond, who cheered her on from the audience. Additionally, Loose Women presenter Charlene White and Prue's husband, John Playfair, whom she has been married to for a decade, were present to show their encouragement.

This marks not the first time Prue has participated in London Fashion Week. In previous years, she has rocked innovative designs, including a parachute-inspired dress and a daring black leather outfit, showcasing her versatility and confidence on the runway.

Timing Amid Bake Off Transition

Prue's latest fashion appearance comes just weeks after she announced her decision to step down from The Great British Bake Off after nearly a decade as a judge alongside Paul Hollywood. Having joined the show in 2017 as a replacement for Dame Mary Berry, Prue expressed her love for the program but cited a desire to pursue other interests, including enjoying her garden during summers.

In her Instagram announcement, Prue wrote, "Bake Off has been a fabulous part of my life for the last nine years, I have genuinely loved it and I’m sure I’ll miss working with my fellow judge Paul, Alison and Noel and the teams at Love Productions and Channel 4." She added, "But now feels like the right time to step back (I’m 86 for goodness sake!), there’s so much I’d like to do, not least spend summers enjoying my garden."

Nigella Lawson Steps In as Replacement

Following Prue's departure, it was confirmed that culinary icon Nigella Lawson will take over as a judge on the hit Channel 4 series. Nigella expressed her excitement and honor, stating, "I’m uncharacteristically rather lost for words right now! Of course it’s daunting to be following in the footsteps of Prue Leith and Mary Berry before her, great dames both, but I’m also bubbling with excitement."

She further noted, "The Great British Bake Off is more than a television programme, it’s a National Treasure – and it’s a huge honour to be entrusted with it. I’m just thrilled to be joining the team and all the new bakers to come, I wish the marvellous Prue all the best, and am giddily grateful for the opportunity!"

Prue Leith offered her seal of approval for Nigella, saying, "I’m thrilled that Nigella is to experience brilliant Bake Off. She’s sassy, fun and she knows her onions — and her croissants, cake and crumble!" This transition highlights the enduring legacy of The Great British Bake Off and the mutual respect among its judges.

Prue Leith's catwalk appearance at London Fashion Week not only showcased her vibrant style but also underscored her ongoing influence in both culinary and entertainment circles, even as she embarks on new chapters beyond the baking tent.
