Sunday Rose Praises Nicole Kidman as Her Ultimate Role Model
Sunday Rose, the 17-year-old daughter of Hollywood actress Nicole Kidman and country singer Keith Urban, has publicly declared her mother to be her "biggest inspiration in life". In a candid interview with Elle Australia for their March issue cover story, the aspiring model credited Kidman's influence as pivotal to her burgeoning career in the fashion industry.
Early Exposure Fuels Modelling Ambitions
Sunday revealed that her interest in modelling was sparked during childhood, when she frequently accompanied her famous mother to photoshoots. "I definitely gained a lot of interest from those experiences and especially being privileged enough to experience them at a young age," she explained. The teenager emphasized that Kidman's creativity and work ethic have been foundational to her own aspirations, stating, "My mum is someone who has always been so creative and my biggest inspiration in life."
She further elaborated on the values instilled in her upbringing, noting, "Something that’s always been followed in my house is doing, not just saying. It basically means that if you say you’re going to do something, stick to your word and do it." Among the practical advice received from Kidman, Sunday highlighted the importance of punctuality: "The biggest piece of industry advice Mum has given to me is to always be on time. It shows that you're prepared and grateful to be there."
Family Dynamics and Career Aspirations
Sunday's heartfelt comments emerge amidst reports of family tensions following Kidman and Urban's shock split in September, which ended their 19-year marriage. According to celebrity reporter Rob Shuter, Sunday and her 15-year-old sister Faith Margaret have sided with their mother, refusing to meet Urban's new girlfriend, 26-year-old country singer Karley Scott Collins. A family friend disclosed, "The girls are really focused on mum right now. They're adjusting to all the changes, and it's natural they want to protect their space."
Despite her current focus on modelling, Sunday expressed ambitions beyond the fashion world. She shared plans to study filmmaking at university, inspired not by her mother's filmography but by the 2019 Oscar-winning movie Parasite. "My dream is to work in film too," she confessed, showcasing her diverse interests.
Modelling Career and Nepotism Debate
Sunday has rapidly ascended in the modelling industry, making her runway debut at just 16 for Miu Miu during Paris Fashion Week 2024. She has since secured campaigns with Omega and Dior, and recently walked for Calvin Klein at New York Fashion Week. Kidman publicly supported her daughter by sharing a video of the Calvin Klein show on Instagram, captioning it "New York Baby."
However, her career has not been without controversy. Critics have mocked her runway walk, accusing her of "stomping" and benefiting from nepotism. Social media comments have ranged from suggestions to "try painting or acting instead" to complaints about "hiring average looking nepo babies." In response, some defenders urged kindness, noting her youth.
Kidman addressed the criticism in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, revealing she initially advised against the Miu Miu debut but was persuaded by founder Miuccia Prada. "Miuccia just loved her and was like, 'No, I want her.' And Miuccia is so powerful as a woman. So that was a good match," Kidman stated, expressing trust in Prada's expertise.
As Sunday continues to navigate her career under the spotlight, she remains steadfast in her admiration for Kidman, whose influence extends far beyond the glamour of Hollywood into the core of her daughter's ambitions and values.
