Donald Trump has stated that the upcoming state visit by King Charles and Queen Camilla to the United States could “absolutely” help repair relations between the UK and the US. The US president described King Charles as a “fantastic” and “great man”, expressing confidence in the positive impact of the visit.
Strained relations
The comments come amid strained relations between Trump and the UK prime minister, Sir Keir Starmer. Trump has previously criticised the UK's approach to the Iran war and has been involved in a public row with Starmer over various issues. The state visit, scheduled for the end of the month, will commemorate the 250th anniversary of American independence.

Trump expressed optimism that the visit would strengthen the bond between the two nations, which he described as vital allies.
In full, Trump said: “King Charles is a fantastic man, a great man. I think his visit could absolutely help repair relations between our countries. We have a lot in common, and I look forward to welcoming him and the Queen.”
