Drill Rapper Dsavv Re-Arrested in France After Escape

A drill rapper who dramatically absconded from hospital custody and fled to France while openly taunting police on social media has been re-arrested after more than two weeks on the run. Daniel Boakye, aged 21, was detained last night in the commune of La Bouëxière, located approximately 60 miles north of the western French city of Nantes.

Background of the Case

Boakye, who performs under the stage name Dsavv, was originally due to be deported to Ghana later this year. This followed his imprisonment in July 2023 for a series of knifepoint robberies. The Metropolitan Police confirmed today that he has now been arrested on suspicion of escaping lawful custody and faces an imminent return to the United Kingdom.

Escape and Smuggling Allegations

It is believed that Boakye was smuggled out of Britain in a lorry shortly after escaping police custody. Detectives are actively searching for individuals who may have assisted him in his escape. His flight began on February 15, when he escaped after being taken to Lewisham Hospital in south-east London for medical treatment.

This was not his first attempt to flee; just five days prior, he had eluded his prison escort at West Middlesex University Hospital, only to be recaptured a day later. His successful escape on February 15 marked the start of his time as a fugitive.

Social Media Taunts and Public Display

While on the run, Boakye brazenly goaded police online through his Instagram account, which boasts almost one million followers. He shared several videos overlaid with a rap celebrating his release, including lyrics such as, 'I just broke out of jail like Modie'—a reference to a character in the Netflix crime drama Top Boy, portrayed by London rapper Dave.

In the videos, he added, 'F*** the government fam, there [sic] phoneys,' while displaying a picture of Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer on-screen. Other lyrics included, 'Prison break, s*** fam - f*** these police... fresh home fresh home, that's lively - free cannabis, champagne and rolleys.'

On Sunday, the day before his arrest, Boakye posted a video of himself dancing shirtless to the same rap, gesturing provocatively at the camera. This public display underscored his defiance and added to the notoriety of his escape.

Legal Implications and Ongoing Investigation

With his re-arrest in France, Boakye now faces serious charges related to evading lawful custody. The Met Police have emphasized that his return to the UK is imminent, where he will likely face additional legal proceedings. The investigation continues as authorities work to identify and apprehend any accomplices involved in his escape and smuggling.

This case highlights the challenges law enforcement faces with high-profile fugitives who use social media to amplify their actions, blending criminal activity with public spectacle in the digital age.
