Officials have unveiled the gut-wrenching details surrounding the death of a 3-year-old boy who fell from a high-rise apartment in Missouri. The toddler, identified as Tarvis Phenix III, known affectionately as T3, lost his life under circumstances that have since been contradicted by surveillance evidence.
Initial Account Versus Surveillance Evidence
The 26-year-old father, Tarvis T. Phenix Jr., initially reported that he had briefly stepped out of their 11th-floor apartment at Parkview Apartments in St. Louis to smoke a cigarette on April 9. However, a probable cause statement cited by the St. Louis Dispatch reveals that surveillance video captured Phenix driving away from the building around 11:50 p.m. that night.
Approximately 45 minutes later, on April 10, T3 was seen on video leaving the apartment and wandering the 11th-floor hallway. The statement indicates that around 12:45 a.m., the toddler climbed onto a bench beneath a window ledge before tragically falling to his death.
Phenix returned to the apartment ten minutes after the fall and reported his son missing. Terance Hardy, a relative of the boy, described the initial search efforts to KSDK, noting that Phenix went door-to-door in the building before authorities were alerted.
Discovery and Legal Allegations
Officers responded to the missing child report and discovered T3's body outside the building. A complaint in the case alleges that Phenix knowingly acted in a manner that created a substantial risk for the boy, ultimately resulting in his death. Phenix is currently being held without bond in connection with the incident.
Family Background and Mother's Struggles
The tragedy unfolded while T3's mother, Diamond Hamilton, was recovering from a leg amputation necessitated by gun violence. Hardy explained in a GoFundMe fundraiser that Hamilton has been in and out of rehabilitation for the past two to three years and is currently dealing with significant mental and emotional stress, exacerbated by this loss.
During her recovery, T3's father's family had stepped in to assist with childcare, as Hamilton also has two other children to care for. The fundraiser has garnered over $9,500 to support her during this profoundly difficult time.

Family members gathered for a balloon release outside the apartment building on April 12 to honor T3's memory. The community came together, holding blue balloons in tribute to the vibrant child.
Hardy reflected on T3's spirit, describing him as "just a ball of life" and emphasizing his remarkable intelligence for a 3-year-old. Hamilton has expressed her grief on social media, sharing heartfelt prayers for her children's protection during her absence.
