The annals of American crime are stained with the names of notorious serial killers whose heinous acts have shocked the nation. John Wayne Gacy, the killer clown, lured at least 33 young men and boys to his home, where he subjected them to rape and murder before burying their bodies in a crawl space. Ted Bundy's campaign of terror claimed at least 36 victims, including a brutal attack on a Florida sorority house in the dead of night. Gary Ridgway, the Green River Killer, strangled 49 women and girls in Washington state, leaving their remains in woodlands and along the Green River.
The Overlooked Monster: Samuel Little's Reign of Terror
Yet, despite the infamy of these criminals, the story of the most prolific serial killer in American history remains less well-known to the public. Samuel Little, a drifter and former boxer, eclipsed these horrifying crime sprees with a staggering toll. Between 1970 and 2005, Little killed at least 60 victims and credibly confessed to a total of 93 murders, making his case one of the most chilling in criminal history.
Exclusive Insights from Texas Ranger Jim Holland
Now, in an exclusive interview with The Crime Desk, Texas Ranger Jim Holland—the investigator who elicited these astonishing confessions—is sharing his firsthand experiences with the serial killer. Holland's work was instrumental in uncovering the full extent of Little's crimes, which spanned decades and multiple states, often targeting vulnerable individuals.
Little's reign of terror began around 1975, and his methods involved luring victims, often through manipulation or force, before committing acts of violence. An FBI composite shows 30 drawings that Little made of some of his murder victims, providing haunting visual evidence of his crimes and aiding in identification efforts.
