A Democratic candidate for California governor has faced intense criticism for sending a profanity-laced anti-Trump email to supporters just one day after the White House Correspondents' Dinner. Katie Porter dispatched an email containing multiple references to 'F*** Trump' mere hours after a gunman allegedly stormed through the lobby of a Washington hotel with the intent to assassinate the president.
Details of the Controversial Email
'Today, I wanna start with one simple, powerful message we all agree on,' the email began, as reported by Fox News Digital. 'Say it with me. Ready, 1 … 2 … 3 … F*** Trump.' The message continued: 'Yeah, that's right, F*** Trump. Together, we're going to kick Trump's a** in November and stop him in his tracks.'
This missive came just hours after Cole Tomas Allen, a gunman, attempted to run through a security checkpoint while heavily armed. Allen has since been charged with attempting to target Trump and other members of his administration.
Republican Response
Nick Poche, a spokesman for the Republican National Committee, seized on Porter's email as evidence of why she should not run for governor. 'Katie Porter is a degenerate loser who is sick in the head, and it's telling that failing Democrat candidates think their path to victory is to fan the flames of violence right after an assassination attempt,' Poche told Fox News Digital. He added, 'The Democrat Party has completely lost its mind, and anyone who refuses to condemn Porter's remarks is just as responsible for the rise in left-wing political violence as Porter is.'
Conservative Commentary
Fox News also highlighted conservative writer Bethany Mandel's reaction on X, where she offered a whataboutism: 'Imagine Barack Obama surviving three assassination attempts and 18 hours later, a Republican sent a fundraising email like this.'
Context of Political Tensions
Porter's poorly timed email comes amid ongoing backlash against left-wing celebrities for their frequent attacks on President Trump. The controversy follows late-night host Jimmy Kimmel's criticism for claiming the First Lady looked like 'an expectant widow' days before the White House Correspondents' Dinner. Kimmel has since stated that the joke was a reference to the 24-year age gap between Melania, 56, and Donald Trump, who will turn 80 in June.
Trump blasted Kimmel's joke as 'beyond the pale' and called for him to be 'immediately fired by Disney and ABC.' MAGA loyalists described it as 'sick and tasteless.' In response, Melania Trump slammed 'Kimmel's hateful and violent rhetoric,' which she claimed was 'intended to divide our country.' She wrote on X, 'His monologue about my family isn't comedy - his words are corrosive and deepens the political sickness within America.'
The Trump-aligned Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is expected to officially challenge Disney's eight licenses for its ABC stations on Tuesday afternoon, according to CNN's Chief Media Analyst Brian Stelter.
On Monday evening, Kimmel doubled down on his joke, insisting it pertained to the age difference between Trump and his wife, not an assassination. He also condemned the shooting attempt at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner while offering condolences to everyone impacted.
