The Killers to Perform at Champions League Final in Budapest

In a major entertainment coup for European football, iconic rock band The Killers are reportedly being lined up for a spectacular pre-match performance at the upcoming UEFA Champions League Final. The highly anticipated event is scheduled to take place on May 30 at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest, Hungary, drawing millions of viewers across the continent.

Epic Kick-Off Show Planned

Sources indicate that The Killers will take to the stage for the Pepsi Kick-Off show, aiming to start Europe's biggest football match in style with some of their biggest hits. The final will feature two of the remaining sixteen teams in the tournament, with the knockout stage draw set for this Friday.

Secret Advertisement with Football Legend

It is believed that this performance is closely linked to a top-secret advertisement that the band's frontman, Brandon Flowers, has filmed with football legend David Beckham. According to insiders, the ad is designed to tease the performance and will be released in the coming weeks.

A source revealed: 'The Killers are locked in to perform at the Champions League Final. They've got seven big shows across the world next month and in April, but on May 30 they will be in Hungary to get the party started.' The source added to The Sun: 'The band have filmed an ad with David to tease the performance, which is going to be released in the coming weeks. It's going to be an epic Kick Off Show, fans can expect the band to play some of their biggest hits.'

Band's Busy Schedule and New Music

While The Killers are heading out on the road for a string of new shows, Brandon Flowers recently hinted that fans won't have long to wait for a new album. Confirming that the band has 'been writing,' the singer said last month that 'the best Killers record' is right around the corner after a five-year wait.

Fans have been eagerly awaiting news of another album since the release of Pressure Machine back in August 2021. Speaking in a new interview on Wednesday, Brandon explained he was figuring out the 'logistics' as he also works to release his solo projects.

'My best guess is that in 2027 you will get the best Killers record,' he confirmed. 'I have two records complete. One is almost mixed. The other will follow shortly. I’m trying to decide how this is going to work logistically.'

Recent Tours and Residency

Speaking to The Sun, Brandon detailed how the band's extensive touring schedule has kept them busy, including over 90 gigs in 2022 and 65 more in 2023, along with a residency at Caesar’s in 2024. He added: 'The production and time that went into it all wiped out 2024, 2025 wrapped up so the two solo records I expect will be coming out in 2026. We’ve been writing here and there.'

Origin of The Killers Name

In related news, some fans of the rock band have only just discovered the origin of the band name after 25 years. The musicians behind iconic anthems such as Somebody Told Me and Mr. Brightside were initially formed in Las Vegas in 2001 by singer Brandon Flowers and guitarist Dave Keuning.

The following year, they added additional band members in bassist Mark Stoermer and drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr. However, it seems that even die-hard fans have been in the dark about the popular band's name, only now realising what it really means.

The Killers name actually came from the fictional band featured in the music video for New Order's song Crystal from 2001. Brandon was a huge fan of New Order and spotted the name on the drum kit of the fictional band in the music video, as reported by The Mirror US.
