Coronation Street has confirmed the whereabouts of Jodie Ramsey after the dramatic events of Murder Week, but fans have voiced their disinterest and confusion over the character's sudden reappearance. The mysterious figure, introduced as the long-lost sister of Shona Platt during the soap's crossover with Emmerdale earlier this year, has been determined to disrupt life for everyone at number eight.
The world's longest-running TV soap, known for experimenting with new storytelling techniques in recent years, left viewers speculating whether Jodie would be killed off. She was named as a potential victim alongside other villains in a flashforward aired earlier this year. However, it was scaffolder Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) who met his demise, while Jodie (Olivia Frances Brown) survived but vanished after unsuccessfully attempting to seduce her brother-in-law David Platt and knocking out his sister Sarah.
In the days following, an investigation was launched to locate Jodie after her blood was found at the scene. David confessed to Shona about Jodie's seduction attempt and faced questioning from DC Kit Green, who is in a relationship with David's sister Sarah. A voicemail where Jodie pretended to reject David's advances was discovered, leading to further scrutiny. David protested, describing Jodie as a fantasist, while Kit noted that her blood had been found at David's home and she had not been heard from for three days.
Later, Shona and David visited their prematurely born daughter Harper in the hospital, where it was revealed that police had retained David's phone. Shona left a voicemail for her sister, and in the next scene, Jodie appeared sitting on a swing at the Weatherfield Precinct, hood up to conceal her identity, listening to the message. She grinned mischievously as she played the Spice Girls track "2 Become 1" through her headphones, the song blaring into the background.
Throughout her time on the cobbles, Jodie has exhibited odd behaviour, including stealing random items and impersonating Shona at the hospital. Last week, two men, credited as Bloke 1 and Bloke 2, visited number eight demanding a USB stick, but Jodie has yet to reveal its contents.
Fans quickly took to Reddit to react to Jodie's sudden reappearance. One user commented: "Producers may have over-estimated how long viewers are willing to follow a character whose motivations and history are unknown, making her actions nonsensical." Another said: "How is she still lurking? They can't find her, yet she's in the park? Shouldn't she be working at the cafe? Is she missing shifts?" A third wrote: "She came from nowhere with a seemingly major storyline that none of us can understand. We've all lost interest. Her only saving grace is giving us more David airtime." Some viewers were simply "confused" by the inclusion of the Spice Girls song, wondering if it hinted at an upcoming affair.
Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
