Despite being dismissed from the team he led for over seven seasons, Alex Cora still harbors nothing but goodwill for the Boston Red Sox. Amid a dismal start to the season that has left them languishing at the bottom of the AL East with a 12-19 record, Cora was relieved of his duties and is now considering his next steps.
Cora's Gratitude
Cora, who guided the Red Sox to a World Series victory in 2018, expressed his appreciation to the organization in an email sent to the front office. The email, obtained by Mass Live, saw Cora thank the Red Sox for his tenure as both a manager and a player, having played infield for them from 2005 to 2008.
'I wanted to take a moment before heading home to thank you,' Cora wrote in the message. 'Being part of this organization has meant a great deal to me. As a player and as a manager. Like I always tell free agents, I'm glad my kids grew up here. It's unique, special and magical.'
Reflection on His Tenure
Cora continued: 'Thank you for treating me with respect and most importantly accept me as AC. I'm grateful for this experience, it made me better. We are happy to have the time to be full time parents, that's the truth, but also we are disappointed that we didn't finish the job.'
'I respect the direction the organization is taking. A lot of talented people will help to accomplish the ultimate goal, having another duck boat parade. Thank you for the hard work, sleepless nights, professionalism and effort to help me lead this great organization.'
'One last thing, keep showing up everyday and don't take the Fenway experience for granted, your working place is the best in the world.'
Career Highlights and Challenges
Cora won the World Series in his first season at the helm, following a 108-win regular season. However, his teams finished last in the AL East in both 2023 and 2024. He was in the second year of a three-year, $21.75 million contract extension signed midway through the 2024 season.
