Victim in Huw Edwards Scandal Reveals First In-Person Hotel Meeting
The teenage boy central to the Huw Edwards scandal has disclosed for the first time that the pair met in person at a hotel. The victim, who remains publicly unidentified, recounted spending a night with the disgraced former BBC presenter at the Marriott Hotel in Cardiff after Edwards, aged 64, threatened to cease sending him money.
By that stage, Edwards had already paid the then 17-year-old boy at least £35,000 in exchange for sexual images. Now 22 years old, the man has spoken publicly for the first time about the encounter in an exclusive interview with The Sun, confirming they did indeed "meet up once" after being bribed by the ex-newsreader.
Financial Pressure and Hotel Encounter
Recalling the moment he agreed to meet Edwards, the victim admitted he had been "relying" on the presenter for financial support. He stated: "He [Edwards] said if I didn't come he wouldn't help me any more. He was standing outside the hotel with his hands in his pockets waiting for me."
The man described feeling "people looking" at the pair when he arrived at the hotel, uncertain whether it was because they recognised Edwards or due to his own youth, being 19 at the time. He added that the meeting occurred "two years" after they first began speaking online, but he was so nervous he struggled to communicate.
Details of the Hotel Room Incident
Describing what transpired once they entered the hotel room, he said: "When we got to the room he tried to put his hand on my shoulder and I froze. I couldn't get my words out. I just laid on the bed and went to sleep so he couldn't do anything." He reported that Edwards then departed in the morning "as he had work."
This revelation emerges alongside reports that the same boy was lured into Edwards's "perverted web" by a paedophile who sent explicit videos to the former presenter. Edwards received 41 indecent images of children from 41-year-old Alex Williams in exchange for cash gifts, including seven category A images, two involving a child aged approximately seven to nine.
Connection to Paedophile Network
Previously, it was assumed Williams was not linked to earlier reports about Edwards paying the teenager for degrading images and videos. However, it has since been revealed that Williams personally selected him through a dating app by informing him Edwards would pay for sexual images.
The victim explained that Edwards asked Williams to help "find young men for his perverted web" and that he first encountered Williams at age 17 in 2020 after communicating on a dating app. He then messaged Edwards later that same night.
Within minutes, Edwards sent the boy £500 and shifted their conversation from the social media platform to WhatsApp. Over the three-year abuse period, the victim was coerced into performing sexual acts over video-chat by Edwards, who sent him tens of thousands of pounds.
Legal Consequences for Edwards
In September 2024, Edwards received a six-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, after pleading guilty to three charges of making indecent images of children. He has also been placed on the sex offenders' register for seven years, marking a significant legal outcome in this disturbing case.
