Lorde's mother has weighed in on the controversy surrounding Lena Dunham's memoir, in which the 'Girls' creator wrote about her ex-boyfriend Jack Antonoff's 'close' relationship with the singer. Lena's new memoir, 'Famesick', released last month, recalls how in 2017 she should have paid closer attention to her then-boyfriend Jack, 42, who spent extended time in the studio with a 'teen pop star', widely rumoured to be Lorde, 29.
Lorde has not responded to the claims, but her mother, Sonja Yelich, has shared her opinion. Lena, 39, made a rare red carpet appearance at the 2026 Met Gala on Monday, with the Metropolitan Museum of Art's official Instagram account sharing an interview with the star. Among the gushing comments, one follower wrote: 'No one gives a s**t about your opinion Lena', to which Sonja echoed, 'No one.' Sonja is an active social media user with 27.8k followers on Instagram, where she predominantly posts proud photos and videos of Lorde.
Background of the Rumours
For years, rumours have swirled that Lena's ex Jack was romantically involved with Lorde, but both have consistently denied any romantic relationship. In her memoir, Lena wrote that during their relationship, Jack spent time in the studio with someone she refers to only as a 'teen pop star'. She even described coming home to find the star 'weeping into Jack's lap'. Lena explained that while she 'flirted' with others during their relationship, she observed careful boundaries, but she suspected Jack did not.
Despite denials from all parties, some fans remain convinced something happened, with one creating a viral PowerPoint presentation arguing that Lorde's album 'Melodrama' (produced by Jack and recorded in the apartment-dash-studio he shared with Lena) offered insight into an alleged affair. The presentation posited that Lorde and Jack got together in April 2016, just months before Jack and Lena split in December 2017 after five years of dating.

Speaking to The Cut in 2018, Lena praised the fan behind the PowerPoint, calling it 'very good' and 'very funny', though she admitted it was embarrassing. She added: 'I don't think anything happened between them. I can never know someone else's life. I have never spoken to Ella [Lorde] about it. We haven't talked since Jack and I broke up.'
Jack and Lorde have both rubbished the rumours. Jack wrote on social media: 'Normally I would never address rumors but I resent having the most important friendships and working relationships in my life reduced to dumb hetero normative gossip.
