South Carolina Congresswoman Nancy Mace has made explosive claims regarding the Jeffrey Epstein files, describing the Department of Justice's redactions as "one of the greatest cover ups in American history." In a revealing interview with British talk show host Piers Morgan, Mace asserted that the names being protected by the DOJ would shock the public.
Shocking Revelations from Both Sides of the Aisle
"You would be shocked at some of the names that I have seen that came across in emails that the DOJ is protecting," Mace declared during the interview. She emphasized that the concealed individuals span across political divides, including "people on both sides of the aisle."
The congresswoman elaborated that the list includes "famous people, rich people… prime ministers, former prime ministers, former presidents, media personalities that are named in these files." This broad spectrum of high-profile figures underscores the potential magnitude of the scandal.
DOJ's Controversial Handling of Epstein Documents
The controversy stems from the DOJ's release last month of over three million files related to Epstein, which contained 180,000 images and 2,000 videos. However, significant redactions prompted widespread outrage, leading the department to allow members of Congress to view the fully unredacted files in-person.
Mace, who has already visited to see these documents and plans a second trip, criticized the viewing setup as "insulting." She noted that "some of the documents you can’t even find within the system," highlighting logistical issues that complicate transparency efforts.
Bipartisan Criticism and Congressional Action
Mace has been a vocal critic of the DOJ's handling of Epstein's case, particularly its failure to aggressively pursue alleged co-conspirators of the late convicted sex offender. She was instrumental in forcing a House vote on legislation demanding the full release of the Epstein files.
"I personally have lost all faith in our Justice Department. It’s a system of injustice," Mace told CNN, expressing her frustration. "There is evidence, there are co-conspirators, you can’t have thousands of victims and have no other accomplices other than one."
She added, "There is no effort, not at all, to prosecute predators in the Epstein cases. And it is devastating, but it is important that we get that list out of potential co-conspirators."
Lawmakers Review Sensitive Files
The massive redactions have drawn criticism from both political parties, with lawmakers from across the spectrum reviewing the unredacted files. Democratic Congressmen Jamie Raskin and Ro Khanna, along with Republican Thomas Massie, visited the DOJ on Monday to examine the remaining withheld documents via a secure terminal.
Raskin revealed that one of Epstein's victims was just nine years old, while Massie indicated that files he viewed suggested a senior official in a foreign government was allegedly involved in Epstein's sex trafficking network.
Attorney General Faces Heated Scrutiny
The issue came to a head during a House Judiciary Committee hearing on Wednesday, where Attorney General Pam Bondi faced intense questioning. The session descended into a shouting match with Democrats, as Bondi shouted insults at several questioners and delivered an impassioned defense of President Donald Trump's legacy.
This political turmoil underscores the deep divisions and high stakes surrounding the Epstein files, as calls for full disclosure continue to mount.
