MI5 sting captures young neo-Nazi who planned mass gun attack
Neo-Nazi planned mass shooting caught in MI5 sting

Alfie Coleman, a 21-year-old from Great Notley in Essex, has been found guilty of preparing for terrorist acts following an Old Bailey retrial. The young neo-Nazi plotted a mass gun attack, venerating Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler and other extremist killers, and had compiled a so-called 'hate list' targeting colleagues and customers.

Plot details

Coleman paid £3,500 for a pistol and approximately 200 rounds of ammunition. He identified potential targets including the Lord Mayor of London and a mosque. The plot was foiled by MI5 undercover officers who engaged with him in encrypted chats as he sought to acquire weapons.

Arrest and conviction

Coleman was arrested in a Morrisons car park in Stratford in September 2023 after picking up the handgun and ammunition. He is due to be sentenced on 8 July. The case highlights the ongoing threat of far-right extremism in the UK and the effectiveness of intelligence-led operations in preventing attacks.
