Police Conclude Property Searches in Prince Andrew Investigation
Thames Valley Police have confirmed that searches at former Prince Andrew's Royal Lodge residence in Berkshire have now been completed. The searches were part of an ongoing investigation into allegations that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor shared confidential trade information with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein during his tenure as the UK's special representative for international trade and investment.
Dramatic Arrest and Extended Custody
The investigation escalated dramatically when Andrew was arrested at Sandringham on Thursday, which coincidentally marked his 66th birthday. Following his arrest, he spent eleven consecutive hours in police custody being questioned by investigators. Photographs captured the royal figure appearing visibly exhausted, slumped in the back of a Range Rover as he departed the Aylsham Police Investigation Centre in Norfolk.
Comprehensive Property Searches
Police conducted thorough searches at two key locations connected to Andrew. In addition to the seven-bedroom Royal Lodge mansion in Windsor, officers also examined Wood Farm on the royal Sandringham estate in Norfolk. This property had become Andrew's temporary residence after King Charles evicted him from Royal Lodge earlier this month as part of broader royal family restructuring.
Official Police Statement
Assistant Chief Constable Oliver Wright provided an official update on the investigation's progress. "Officers have now left the location we have been searching in Berkshire," Wright stated. "This concludes the search activity that commenced following our arrest of a man in his sixties from Norfolk on Thursday."
Wright acknowledged the significant public interest in the case while emphasizing the need for investigative space. "We understand the significant public interest in this case and our investigation remains ongoing," he continued. "It is important that our investigators are given the time and space to progress their work. We will provide updates when it is appropriate to do so, but this is unlikely to be for some time."
Allegations and Investigation Origins
The investigation stems from reports that Andrew allegedly shared sensitive trade reports and confidential investment opportunities with Jeffrey Epstein during 2010 and 2011. During this period, Andrew served as the UK's special trade envoy to Asia, a position that granted him access to privileged commercial information. Thames Valley Police initially confirmed they were "assessing" these reports before proceeding with the arrest and subsequent property searches.
The case represents a significant development in the ongoing scrutiny of Andrew's relationship with Epstein, who died in prison while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. The investigation continues as police analyze evidence gathered during the searches and questioning sessions.
