Strictly's Blackpool Week: Six Couples Dance Amid Scandal

The glitterball has descended upon Blackpool as Strictly Come Dancing arrives at the iconic Tower Ballroom for its prestigious annual special. However, the show's signature sparkle has been dimmed by a turbulent week, marked by a contestant's forced withdrawal and a serious off-screen scandal.

A Reduced Line-Up for the Big Night

Only six couples will take to the famous floor for this week nine spectacle. The line-up was reduced after Ru Paul’s Drag Race UK star La Voix was compelled to pull out due to an injury. The 45-year-old performer expressed profound disappointment, stating, "I’ve been advised that I’m unable to perform, and my heart truly breaks knowing I won’t be dancing in such an iconic venue." A spokesperson for the BBC competition confirmed that La Voix will be given an automatic pass to the next round.

This follows last week's surprising elimination of reality TV favourite Vicky Pattison and her professional partner, Kai Widdrington. The exit was particularly painful for Pattison, as the dance-off against EastEnders star Balvinder Sopal and Julian Caillon was broadcast on her 38th birthday. Reflecting on her departure, an emotional Pattison told co-host Tess Daly, "I let my nerves get in the way. I’m so, so gutted."

Shadow of Scandal Over the Ballroom

Beyond the dance floor drama, the show has been rocked by a separate, grave incident. This week, it was reported that a star linked to the programme was arrested on suspicion of rape. The alleged incident is said to have occurred after a BBC event in 2024 and, according to reports, does not involve the current series.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was taken into custody. The Sun reported that the alleged victim was not a contestant or a professional dancer on the show. In response to the allegations, a BBC spokesperson stated, "It would not be appropriate to comment on an ongoing police investigation."

What to Expect from Blackpool Week

Despite the off-stage controversies, the show must go on. The Strictly Come Dancing Blackpool Week special will air live on BBC One from 6:45 pm until 8:05 pm. The six couples competing for the judges' favour are:

  • Alex & Johannes
  • Amber & Nikita
  • Balvinder & Julian
  • George & Alexis
  • Karen & Carlos
  • Lewis & Katya

The results of the public vote will then be revealed during the Sunday results show, which airs at 7:15 pm on BBC One. All eyes will be on the remaining contestants as they strive to deliver show-stopping performances under the bright lights of one of the world's most famous ballrooms.
