Liz Truss Meets Trump, Blames 'Deep State' for Premiership End

Liz Truss, Britain's shortest-serving prime minister, has shared a photograph from a meeting with former US President Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida. The image, posted on social media platform X, shows Truss beaming alongside Trump, with the caption "right about everything," reaffirming her strong allegiance to the MAGA movement.

Truss Blames 'Deep State' for Premiership Collapse

Since her tumultuous seven-week tenure in 2022 ended abruptly, Truss has consistently pointed to what she describes as "the deep state" as the primary cause of her political downfall. In a recent statement on her podcast, The Liz Truss Show, she vowed to ignite a "Trump-style counter-revolution" against perceived attacks on the free world, declaring, "The deep state tried to destroy me but now I’m back and excited to launch this show."

Call for a UK MAGA Movement

Truss has openly advocated for the United Kingdom to develop its own version of the MAGA movement, urging figures like Elon Musk and his supporters to scrutinise the "British deep state." During a visit to the Conservative Political Action Conference in Maryland last year, she criticised her own country as "failing," highlighting her alignment with Trump's political ideology.

Economic Turmoil Under Truss's Leadership

Her brief premiership was marked by significant economic instability, with the pound plummeting to a 37-year low following a controversial borrowing package aimed at funding the largest tax cuts in half a century. This move spooked financial markets and contributed to her rapid exit from office.

Trump's Controversial Video and Obama's Response

The meeting between Truss and Trump occurs amidst ongoing controversy for the former president, who recently faced allegations of racism after sharing a video on Truth Social that depicted Barack Obama and Michelle Obama as apes. The video was removed after 12 hours, with a senior White House official claiming it was posted "erroneously" by a staffer, and Trump refusing to apologise, stating he "didn't see the whole thing."

In response, Barack Obama addressed the incident in an interview with political commentator Brian Tyler Cohen, emphasising that the majority of Americans find such behaviour "deeply troubling." He remarked, "It is true that it gets attention. It’s true that it’s a distraction. But, as I’m traveling around the country, as you’re traveling around the country, you meet people — they still believe in decency, courtesy, kindness."

Notably, President Trump has not publicly commented on his interaction with Truss on his social media channels, leaving the focus on her continued support for his movement and her criticisms of established political structures.
