Trump's Valentine's Day Fundraising Email Reaches E. Jean Carroll
E. Jean Carroll, the writer who secured an $83.3 million defamation judgment against President Donald Trump, has revealed she received a Valentine's Day-themed fundraising email from a political action committee linked to the president. The email, which asks recipients "do you still love me?", was sent by Never Surrender Inc., Trump's leadership PAC, and Carroll confirmed she did not subscribe to its mailing list.
The Unusual Fundraising Tactics
The email, purportedly from "secret admirer Donald J. Trump," implores supporters to read a "love letter" from the president and demonstrate their loyalty through a monetary donation. It features poetic lines such as, "Roses are red, violets are blue. Do you still love Trump, as I love you?" and includes a photograph of Trump depositing a Valentine's Day card into a mailbox.
Carroll expressed her astonishment on social media, stating, "Yes. This is a real email. No, I did not sign up on this mailing list. Yes. We are living in a crazy world." The reason for Carroll receiving the email remains unclear, particularly given her legal history with Trump.
Background of the Legal Dispute
Carroll initiated a defamation lawsuit against Trump in 2019 after he denied her allegation that he raped her in the 1990s. A jury subsequently found Trump liable for sexual abuse, and a separate jury awarded Carroll millions in damages for his repeated defamatory statements. This legal victory has not shielded her from the fundraising efforts of Trump's political apparatus.
Never Surrender Inc., originally formed from Trump's 2024 presidential campaign after his election victory, has dispatched numerous Valentine's Day-themed emails throughout February. These messages consistently direct recipients to a donation website under the guise of a "love letter."
Financial Implications and Past Practices
Historically, Trump has utilized funds from small donors contributed to affiliated PACs to cover his legal expenses during various state and federal civil and criminal proceedings. For instance, Federal Election Commission records indicate that the Make America Great Again Inc. super PAC and Save America PAC disbursed approximately $4 million to the law firm of Alina Habba, who represented Trump in the federal civil defamation case involving Carroll.
Never Surrender Inc. has disseminated hundreds of similar emails, often framed as direct communications from Trump, urging supporters to express their affection by participating in a "poll" or leaving a personalized note, both of which necessitate a financial contribution.
Examples of Recent Campaigns
Earlier in February, an email from the PAC declared, "I placed a special LOVE LETTER in the mailbox." Another message from February 4 lamented, "I love you, and I was pretty sure you loved me! But a few days ago, I sent a special LOVE LETTER for you and I haven’t heard back." On Valentine's Day itself, an email inquired, "Do you need a hug?" and pleaded, "Before Valentine’s Day is over, can you leave me a quick personal note? I’m dying to read it." This also redirected users to a donation platform with a section for personalized messages.
Carroll has not disclosed whether she received additional Valentine's Day-themed fundraising emails from Never Surrender Inc. The Independent has sought comment from the PAC regarding this matter, but no response has been provided at this time.
