Amad Diallo Endorses Michael Carrick for Long-Term Manchester United Managerial Position
Manchester United winger Amad Diallo has voiced strong support for Michael Carrick to be appointed as the club's permanent manager, describing him as the 'right man' for the role on a long-term basis. Diallo's comments come as Carrick has overseen a significant turnaround in United's fortunes since assuming the managerial position until the end of the season in January 2026.
Carrick's Transformative Impact at Old Trafford
Since taking charge, Michael Carrick has guided Manchester United to third place in the Premier League, positioning the team favourably to secure a return to the Champions League next season. This marked improvement follows the sacking of Ruben Amorim at the start of the year, with the club initially intending to evaluate all options for a long-term appointment. However, Carrick's impressive performance has firmly established him as a leading candidate.
Speaking during the club's training camp in Dublin, Amad Diallo expressed his backing for the former United captain, emphasising Carrick's experience and understanding of the club's DNA. 'Obviously it's not for us as a player to decide, but he's been very great, he's been doing so much for the team,' Diallo stated. 'He has a lot of experience, he knows the club and has the DNA. We think he's the right man. We are really happy for what he is doing right now.'
Player Support and Managerial Qualities
Diallo highlighted Carrick's clear objectives and hands-on approach, noting that the manager has been working closely with each player to achieve success. 'Since he's arrived he's been clear to everyone that he wants to win, he wants to reach the Champions League next season, and he's been working with each player so he's doing very well and we are really happy to have him as a manager,' he added. Diallo also suggested that Carrick's leadership could help restore the club to its former glory, stating, 'Sometimes this kind of manager can bring the club where they belong.'
Teammate Bryan Mbeumo echoed Diallo's sentiments, praising Carrick's familiarity with the club and his effective communication with the squad. 'We've got good experience with him, playing under him as well. It's not for us to decide but we going to try to take as much as we can from him,' Mbeumo said. 'He knows the journey of the club, he knows how to talk to us as well, I think it's been easier because he know the place so he has been great to work with.'
Future Decision and Club Considerations
Despite the players' endorsements, both Diallo and Mbeumo acknowledged that the final decision rests with the club's hierarchy. Mbeumo remarked, 'I think the club will decide at the end of the season, but my honest opinion is we're really happy to have Michael Carrick as a manager and he's doing well.' This reflects the broader context where Manchester United had planned to take time to assess all managerial options, but Carrick's successful interim tenure has made him a strong contender for the permanent role.
The situation underscores the positive atmosphere Carrick has fostered within the squad, with players openly supporting his potential long-term appointment. As the season progresses, the club's decision will be closely watched by fans and analysts alike, with Carrick's ability to deliver Champions League football likely playing a crucial role in the outcome.
