Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim was captured in a moment of intense frustration during his side's chaotic 4-4 draw with Bournemouth on Monday evening, with his angry words about young defender Leny Yoro now revealed.
The Dugout Outburst
Footage shared by a supporter on social media showed the 40-year-old Portuguese coach visibly agitated in the Old Trafford technical area. After gesturing animatedly to his backroom staff, Amorim was heard shouting in his native language: "The ball has gone for half an hour, what is Leny doing?"
The exact moment that triggered this outburst during the Premier League clash remains unclear, but it underscored the manager's growing exasperation with his team's defensive lapses.
History of Frustration with Young Defender
This is not the first time Amorim has publicly addressed concerns about the 20-year-old French centre-back. Earlier in December, following United's 2-1 win at Crystal Palace, the manager suggested Yoro "thinks too much" after the player appeared dejected on the bench following his 54th-minute substitution.
"I also spoke with him because he thinks too much," Amorim explained at the time. "He makes a mistake in the game and then he struggles because he's too young and he wants to do everything so well."
Amorim acknowledged the player's frustration showed he cared, but emphasised the need for a better reaction. "He cannot give that [reaction] to the people, the way he came to the bench. He understands that but he was really frustrated," he added.
A Costly Draw at Old Trafford
The manager's irritation was compounded by the final result. Despite taking the lead on three separate occasions against Bournemouth, United failed to secure a vital victory. Goals from Bruno Fernandes, Matheus Cunha, Amad, and Casemiro showcased an improved attacking display.
However, defensive frailties were laid bare as the Cherries fought back to snatch a point, with the late equaliser denying United a chance to move up to fifth place in the table.
Speaking after the match, a disappointed Amorim called it a "crazy game" and felt his side had dropped points in the first half despite dominating. "It might look like we lost the two points in the second half but I think we lost them in the first half. We dominated and created so many chances. We had to go to half-time with a different result," he stated.
He pinpointed a familiar loss of concentration early in the second half, similar to their previous match against Nottingham Forest, which allowed Bournemouth back into the contest. "In the end, it was a fun game," Amorim concluded, though the sentiment likely did little to mask his frustration after another inconsistent defensive performance.
