Arsenal Hire Throw-In Coach Thomas Gronnemark to Boost Premier League Title Bid
Arsenal hire specialist throw-in coach Thomas Gronnemark

Mikel Arteta has moved to strengthen his Arsenal backroom team by appointing a specialist throw-in coach, as the Gunners look to maintain their advantage at the top of the Premier League table.

Gronnemark Confirms Arsenal Role

Thomas Gronnemark, a renowned expert in throw-in tactics, has publicly confirmed he is now working with Arsenal. The 50-year-old Danish coach announced the news on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, stating: "It's out. Yes, I coach Arsenal."

He clarified that his work encompasses "Long, Fast and Clever throw-in" techniques and shared a photograph from outside the club's Sobha Realty Training Centre. His appointment follows reports last week linking him with a move to North London.

A Proven Track Record at Top Clubs

Gronnemark is no stranger to English football or title challenges. He previously worked with Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp, joining in 2018 and contributing to the Reds' Premier League triumph in the 2019/20 season.

Recalling the surreal moment he was hired by Klopp, Gronnemark said: "I was totally in shock when Jurgen called me... My heart was just pounding... I drove directly into a grass field when he called." The German manager had discovered him by reading an article in Bild newspaper while on holiday.

Beyond Liverpool, Gronnemark's client list includes other notable clubs such as:

  • Brentford
  • Borussia Dortmund
  • Ajax

Boosting Arsenal's Set-Piece Prowess

Arsenal's move for Gronnemark signals a desire to gain every possible marginal advantage. The club is already a powerhouse from set-pieces under coach Nicolas Jover, having scored a league-leading 14 goals from such situations this season.

The hope at the Emirates Stadium is that Gronnemark can have a comparable impact to Jover. His arrival coincides with a broader revival of interest in the strategic use of long throws in the top flight.

Arteta's side currently sit six points clear of closest rivals Manchester City. Following a Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Chelsea, Arsenal return to Premier League action on Saturday with a trip to face Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

This fixture comes after Manchester City's own tough away match at Manchester United in Saturday's early kick-off, presenting a potential opportunity for Arsenal to solidify or extend their lead at the summit.
