Manchester United have officially placed their faith in club legend Michael Carrick, appointing him as interim manager until the conclusion of the current campaign.
Carrick's Immediate Focus and Coaching Team
The 44-year-old former midfielder and first-team coach steps into the role following the departure of Ruben Amorim. After emerging as the preferred candidate over another ex-United star, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Carrick held further talks at the club's Carrington training base before his appointment was finalised on Tuesday.
In his first statement, Carrick expressed his honour at leading the club. "Having the responsibility to lead Manchester United is an honour," he said. "I know what it takes to succeed here." He emphasised his belief in the current squad, having worked with many of the players previously and followed the team closely.
Carrick will be supported by a reshaped backroom staff, including former England assistant Steve Holland as his number two. The coaching team will also feature Jonathan Woodgate, Jonny Evans, and Travis Binnion.

The new interim boss faces an immediate baptism of fire. His first match in the dugout will be the highly anticipated Manchester derby against Pep Guardiola's City at Old Trafford this Saturday.
