Michael Carrick says he loves managing Manchester United but remains relaxed about his long-term future, insisting he is not 'chasing' an answer beyond the end of the season.
Carrick's Stint at Old Trafford
It has been 100 days since the 44-year-old former midfielder, captain and coach was appointed interim manager following Ruben Amorim's acrimonious January exit. Carrick replaced Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for the remainder of the campaign and has exceeded expectations.
Under his guidance, United have secured wins against Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea, propelling them to third in the Premier League. With Champions League qualification within reach, speculation about his future is growing.
Carrick's Comments on His Future
'I've said it many times, I enjoy being here, I enjoy the role I'm in,' Carrick said ahead of Monday's home match against Brentford. 'We've had some good results and we're in decent shape. We still want to keep improving, there's layers that we want to get to, really. I'll see.'
When asked about clarity, he added: 'I'm not sure, to be honest. Genuinely it's not something in terms of deadlines that I'm really chasing. I think it'll become clear when it's going to become clear.'
Comparisons to Solskjaer
Carrick pipped his close friend Solskjaer to the job, who had earned the permanent role in 2019 after impressing as Jose Mourinho's interim replacement. Some sceptics draw parallels, but Carrick dismisses them: 'I don't think it's disrespectful. I've got the utmost respect for him. He's a close friend of mine... You can compare to all sorts of different situations, but it's irrelevant really.'
