Chris Eubank Jr Welcomes Twin Boys in 'Greatest' Life Moment
British middleweight boxer Chris Eubank Jr has announced the birth of twin boys, hailing the occasion as "the greatest thing I've done in my life." The 36-year-old shared the joyful news on social media, posting a photograph of himself holding his newborn sons. This development arrives four months after his last professional bout, a points defeat to bitter rival Conor Benn in November.
Private Life Shielded from Public Scrutiny
In the days preceding his rematch with Benn, Eubank Jr had revealed to The Independent and other outlets that he was expecting twins. However, he has consistently maintained a strict boundary around his personal relationships. "My private life should be private," he asserted, explaining his decision to keep his partner's identity anonymous. He cited the public dissolution of his parents' marriage as a formative experience that shaped this philosophy.
"What people don't know and what people don't see, they cannot target, they cannot ruin, they cannot try to interfere with," Eubank Jr stated. He questioned the benefit of exposing high-profile relationships to media scrutiny, pointing to prevalent stories of scandal and divorce. "Social media does nothing but ruin relationships," he added, recalling the embarrassment of his parents' very public split.
Fatherhood and Fighting Future
Addressing speculation that becoming a father might hasten his retirement from the dangerous sport, Eubank Jr was dismissive. "I don't think having children has any effect on my career. If anything, they will make me fight harder, because I know now that I have two extra mouths to feed," he told The Independent. He acknowledged the inherent risks of boxing and the desire to be present for his children's upbringing, but affirmed his continued passion for fighting.
"These types of fights that I am in, they take a bit out of you – they take a little bit of your life out of you. It's something to think about, but as of right now, I am in love with my life as a fighter, and I don't see it coming to an end any time soon," he declared.
Family Legacy and Future Generations
The initial announcement of his impending fatherhood was made in the BBC documentary The Eubanks: Like Father, Like Son, which featured his iconic father, Chris Eubank Sr. Eubank Jr described the filmed moment of telling his father as "a beautiful moment that we can relive for the rest of our lives." Reflecting on his father's historical reluctance about his boxing career, Eubank Jr said developing a bond with his nephew helped him understand that protective instinct.
When asked if he would encourage his own sons to box, he was clear: "Will I push [my kids] into boxing? No. Would I want them to be boxers? I would not say that. [But] I would not stop, forbid or block them, like my father did for me." He emphasized the dangers of the sport and stated he would only offer support if they expressed a genuine interest, never coercion.
Sporting Context and Rivalry
Eubank Jr's last fight was a dramatic rematch against Conor Benn, where he was knocked down twice in the final round before losing on points. This followed his victory over Benn via decision seven months prior. Their rivalry echoes the historic clashes of their fathers, Chris Eubank Sr and Nigel Benn, who fought two legendary bouts in the 1990s. The birth of his twins marks a significant personal milestone for Eubank Jr amidst this ongoing sporting narrative.
