Fabregas 'Plan' for Arsenal Job Amid Arteta Pressure

Cesc Fabregas has been suggested as a potential candidate to succeed Mikel Arteta as Arsenal manager down the line. It appears that the prospect of Fabregas taking the reins at Chelsea, meanwhile, may not be on the cards.

Fabregas is currently at the helm of Serie A outfit Como, marking the former midfielder's first venture into senior management. The 38-year-old stepped in as Como's caretaker boss in 2023, when the club was competing in the second tier of Italian football, going on to steer them to promotion to Serie A just months later.

Como currently sit fifth in Serie A, just three points adrift of fourth-placed Juventus, who hold the final Champions League qualification spot. Such has been Fabregas' impact at Como that speculation is now mounting that the former Spain international could make a return to the Premier League to take charge of one of his old clubs, reports football.london.

Insight from Sky Sports

Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol has provided insight on why Arsenal could be a likely destination for Fabregas, while casting doubt over the prospect of a Chelsea move. “Cesc Fabregas, what I’ve been told, there’s some kind of suggestion that long-term, the plan for him is to manage Arsenal one day,” Solhekol stated on the Transfer Talk podcast from Sky Sports. “I’m not sure moving to Chelsea would be part of his career progression.”

Como Sporting Director Responds

Como sporting director Ludi has since addressed the swirling speculation over Fabregas' future at the club, amid rumours that a move elsewhere may already be in the pipeline. “We’re calm. We’re focused on these next few games,” Ludi told Sport Mediaset this week. “We’re incredibly aligned with Cesc but we can’t predict the future. However, I’m sure that we will continue this journey together.”

Fabregas departed Barcelona's academy to join Arsenal, going on to rack up 303 appearances for the Gunners and claiming an FA Cup during his stint in north London. The former midfielder subsequently returned to Barcelona before heading back to the Premier League, putting pen-to-paper on a deal to join Chelsea in the summer of 2014 to work with former manager Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge. Over the course of 198 appearances, Fabregas secured two Premier League titles with the Blues, along with an FA Cup, a League Cup and a Europa League trophy.
