Max Holloway is eager to avenge his loss to Conor McGregor as speculation grows over a potential rematch between the two UFC stars. Holloway, the former featherweight champion, lost to McGregor via decision in 2013 but now wants to settle the score.
McGregor's Long-Awaited Return
Conor McGregor has not fought since breaking his leg against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in 2021. The Irishman's last victory came in 2020 when he knocked out Donald 'Cowboy' Cerrone in under 60 seconds. After a planned return in 2024 fell through due to injury, the 37-year-old is now targeting a comeback at UFC 329 on July 11, 2026, during International Fight Week.
UFC president Dana White initially remained cautious about McGregor's July return but has since expressed optimism. "It's looking good. Believe me, once we get a deal done with him, we will announce it," White stated recently.
Holloway's Desire for Redemption
Holloway, who last fought in March 2026, losing the BMF title to Charles Oliveira, is keen to fight again. Speaking to Paramount, he said: "We have history. We fought a very long time ago. If somebody's got one over me, I want to get him back. I'd love to get him back."
The Hawaiian added: "He looks hungrier. He just did a boxing exhibition not too long ago. I would just like to get one back. It's a huge fight. Anything with Conor McGregor is huge, but having history with the dude, being able to get one back would be cool."
However, Holloway has not yet received official confirmation from the UFC regarding a spot on the July card. "I'm seeing all the talk that you guys see. I really didn't hear anything yet, but that wouldn't be a bad time," he said.
What's Next for the Notorious?
McGregor's return has been a topic of intense speculation, with Holloway emerging as a frontrunner opponent. The Irishman has been training consistently and appears determined to make a comeback. A rematch with Holloway would be a significant draw, given their history and Holloway's status as a fan favorite.
