Huddersfield Town Manager Liam Manning Steps Away for Compassionate Leave
Huddersfield Town head coach Liam Manning has been granted compassionate leave for the remainder of the season, stepping away from his duties with immediate effect. This decision follows the tragic death of his newborn son, Theo, in October 2024, a personal tragedy that has deeply affected Manning and his family.
Club Confirms Support for Manning and Family
The club confirmed Manning's leave, stating he informed them of ongoing personal matters related to the loss of his son. In a heartfelt statement, Huddersfield Town expressed unwavering support for Manning, his wife Fran, their eldest son Isaac, and the entire Manning family. The club emphasised the need for privacy during this difficult time, urging respect for the family's wishes.
This is not the first time Manning has taken leave due to this tragedy; he previously had a short absence while managing Bristol City before his moves to Norwich and then Huddersfield in January.
Assistant Coaches to Lead Team for Remainder of Season
With Manning on leave, assistant coaches Martin Drury and Jon Stead will assume control of the team for the rest of the campaign. Huddersfield currently sits ninth in League One, having recently fallen out of the play-off positions. The Terriers have seven league games left to try and force their way back into contention for promotion.
Since Manning's arrival in January, Huddersfield's performance has been mixed:
- Five wins in 12 league matches
- Three draws and four losses
- Elimination from the EFL Trophy at the quarter-final stage after a 3-0 home defeat by Doncaster Rovers last month
Upcoming Fixtures and Season Conclusion
Huddersfield will return to action on Good Friday, hosting Reading before travelling to Leyton Orient three days later. The team will then finish the season with games against:
- Wycombe Wanderers
- Cardiff City
- Bolton Wanderers
- Mansfield Town
- AFC Wimbledon
The league season is due to conclude on 2 May, with Huddersfield hoping to secure a play-off spot. The club and fans alike will be rallying behind the team as they navigate this challenging period, both on and off the pitch.
