Man Utd Confirm Kobbie Mainoo's New Five-Year Deal

Manchester United have confirmed that Kobbie Mainoo has signed a new five-year contract, committing his future to the club until 2031. The 21-year-old academy graduate, who was previously set to be out of contract next summer, has agreed to a significant salary increase and put an end to mounting speculation about a potential departure from Old Trafford.

A Remarkable Turnaround Under Carrick

Mainoo had fallen out of favour under former manager Ruben Amorim, leading to strong interest from Italian side Napoli and Premier League rivals Chelsea. However, since Michael Carrick took over as head coach, the midfielder has rediscovered his form and re-established himself in the starting XI. His resurgence has been pivotal in convincing the club to offer an improved deal and in Mainoo choosing to stay.

Speaking after a recent victory over Brentford, Carrick praised Mainoo's development: "I thought on the back of the Chelsea game, where he was particularly good and showed similar things, with a bit of everything. His build-up play, his taking of the ball, his creation and starting the attacks. He's so effective with that. But definitely, his duels, his 1v1s, recovery runs and back-tackling - over the last two games he's taken that up a level. It's great to see that he can do it. We know that he can do it. We're trying to give him more responsibility as the games go on. We're still not expected too much of him and understand and try to help him a bit, but he's doing great at the moment."

Mainoo's Journey at United

Mainoo made his first-team debut for United during the 2022/23 season in a Carabao Cup match against Charlton Athletic. Since then, he has amassed 98 appearances for the club, scoring seven goals—many of which have been crucial. Among his most memorable strikes are a late equaliser against Lyon in a dramatic Europa League victory last season, a stoppage-time winner in a 4-3 triumph over Wolves in 2024, and a goal against Manchester City in the 2024 FA Cup final.

With the new contract now secured, Mainoo's focus turns to the upcoming match against Liverpool at Old Trafford this weekend. Victory would rubber-stamp United's place in the Champions League for next season, adding further significance to the fixture.
