Masters Field Finalised as Five PGA Tour Stars Secure Last-Minute Invites
Masters Field Finalised with Five Last-Minute PGA Tour Invites

The prestigious Masters Tournament is poised to commence from April 9 to 12 at Augusta National, with the field now nearly complete as defending champion Rory McIlroy aims to retain his green jacket against a competitive lineup of 92 other golfers. One final spot remains available, awaiting the winner of the Valero Texas Open, while the rest of the participants gear up for the opening rounds.

Late Entries Boost Masters Lineup

Five PGA Tour professionals have secured last-minute invitations to the Masters following their performances at the Texas Children's Houston Open on Sunday. Gary Woodland clinched a five-shot victory, marking his first PGA Tour win since the 2019 US Open, and will head to Georgia alongside Daniel Berger, Jake Knapp, Nicolai Hojgaard, and Matt McCarty. These players maintained their positions inside the top 50 of the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR), a key criterion for entry.

Woodland expressed his excitement, stating, "Obviously your goal out here is to play in major championships. My exemption ran out a year ago. I haven’t been in the other three majors from an exempt standpoint outside the US Open from my win. Playing my way back in, I know this gets me in the Masters, I know it gets me in the PGA. I’m looking forward to that, I can tell you that."

Eligibility and Notable Absences

Tournament entry combines the current top 50 OWGR players with those from the previous calendar year, while previous Masters winners enjoy lifetime membership, and other major champions from the last five years also secure automatic spots. Despite a recent arrest after a car accident, Tiger Woods remains on the list as a past champion, though his participation hinges on proving his fitness.

A number of former champions will not be competing this year, including Tommy Aaron, Charles Coody, Ben Crenshaw, Sir Nick Faldo, Raymond Floyd, Trevor Immelman, Bernhard Langer, Sandy Lyle, Larry Mize, Jack Nicklaus, Mark O'Meara, Gary Player, Craig Stadler, Tom Watson, and Ian Woosnam.
