The University of Miami's men's basketball programme has shared devastating news about one of its key players. Sophomore forward Marcus Allen has been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma and will be sidelined for the remainder of the season, the school confirmed on Friday.

The 20-year-old athlete, a native of Miami, received the diagnosis following routine medical tests. Allen, who began his college career at the University of Missouri before transferring to the Hurricanes this year, had been averaging 5.3 points and 3.1 rebounds in 18.9 minutes per game this season. He has already commenced chemotherapy treatments.
In a statement, Miami coach Jai Lucas expressed the team's full support. Allen was a highly-touted consensus four-star recruit coming out of high school. His talent was evident when he led Miami Norland High to a state championship in 2024, averaging an impressive 22.7 points and 13.2 rebounds per game. His skills also earned him a spot in the prestigious Allen Iverson Classic All-American game, and he helped AZ Compass Prep reach the title game at the GEICO nationals in 2023.
