Nico O'Reilly Predicts Man City Title Charge After Arsenal Cup Final Victory
O'Reilly: Man City Smelt Blood in Arsenal Cup Win, Eye Title

Nico O'Reilly Declares Manchester City 'Smelt Blood' in Arsenal Cup Final Triumph

Manchester City's match-winner Nico O'Reilly has delivered a bold statement, asserting that their victory over Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley will catalyse a pivotal momentum shift in the Premier League title race. O'Reilly, who scored two decisive headers, believes City have struck a significant psychological blow against their fierce rivals.

City's Confidence Soars After Wembley Success

O'Reilly emphasised that Manchester City "smelt blood" during the final and are now primed to chase down Arsenal in the league standings. He stated, "Yeah 100 per cent. The blood never went - we've always smelt blood. We're confident in ourselves, we know we can do it, they've got to come to our place which is a tough place to come to as everyone has seen this season."

This win, according to O'Reilly, builds crucial momentum for City, who currently trail Arsenal by nine points but hold a game in hand. The upcoming clash at the Etihad Stadium on April 19 is shaping up as a potential title decider, with City having previously overtaken Arsenal in two of the last three seasons.

Guardiola's Influence and Team Dynamics

The young star credited manager Pep Guardiola's winning mentality as a key factor, noting, "Just his winning mentality. He wants to win everything. He wants us to work hard every day." O'Reilly also highlighted the importance of experienced leaders within the squad, who guide younger players through high-pressure situations like title races.

He added, "We have some great leaders, players who have won a lot so they definitely help us young players through it all who haven't been in situations like us before in title races and won many trophies so it is definitely very important to have them around."

Focus on Momentum and Future Challenges

O'Reilly views the Carabao Cup victory as a springboard for City's campaign, stating, "100 per cent, it is a blow for them and we need to build on it and get some momentum from this win now. As soon as the international break is over we need to kick on and fight hard."

Despite the intense rivalry and social media chatter, O'Reilly stressed that City remain focused internally. "We just need to focus on ourselves, the changing room is happy, everyone is happy with each other and we need to keep going. Who knows, I don't know how Arsenal are feeling. Obviously they will be upset they haven't won a trophy. We will keep going."

Personal Milestones and Looking Ahead

Celebrating his 21st birthday just before the final, O'Reilly described the weekend as "perfect," but remains grounded. "A little bit, as I said it is a great feeling but I am not going to get ahead of myself or anything like that because there is a lot to play for and a lot to do so I will just knuckle down and keep going."

With both teams still competing in the FA Cup quarter-finals, the title race promises further drama. Arsenal, aiming for their first trophy in six years, face mounting pressure as City leverage their Wembley success to fuel their pursuit of Premier League glory.
