Scott Parker Laments Dubravka Error as Fulham Comeback Sinks Burnley

Burnley manager Scott Parker was left to rue a costly mistake from goalkeeper Martin Dubravka as his side slipped to a 3-1 defeat against Fulham at Craven Cottage. The result leaves the Clarets nine points adrift of safety with only seven Premier League games remaining, pushing them closer to relegation.

Defining Moment Proves Costly for Struggling Clarets

Burnley had taken the lead through Zian Flemming's ninth goal of the season, but the game turned on a pivotal error from Dubravka. The goalkeeper misjudged a cross from Sander Berge, allowing Fulham's 19-year-old striker Josh King to tap in an equaliser for his first Premier League goal.

"I thought our general performance, up to probably 60 minutes, was very good," said Parker. "Probably the defining moment is obviously a slight mistake on our behalf and obviously they score. A rare mistake that is unlike Martin – he's pulled off some saves today as well and he's pulled off saves throughout this year."

The manager refused to be overly critical of his goalkeeper but acknowledged the psychological blow. "So, not to be critical of that, but it was a bit of a blow. We didn't manage to weather that and they scored again quickly."

Fulham Capitalise on Burnley's Collapse

Just six minutes after King's equaliser, Harry Wilson demonstrated why he was the game's standout performer by cutting inside and drilling a low left-footed shot into the near post for his tenth goal of the season. The Welsh international's strike put Fulham firmly in control.

The match was sealed in stoppage time when Burnley's Josh Laurent was shown a red card for bringing down Raul Jimenez in the penalty area. The Mexican striker calmly converted the resulting spot-kick to secure a 3-1 victory for the Cottagers.

Fulham manager Marco Silva was delighted with his team's response. "It was a very important win for us," he said. "It's a massive three points for many reasons. A must-win for us." The victory keeps Fulham in contention for European qualification.

Parker Faces Familiar Relegation Battle

The defeat was particularly painful for Parker, who managed Fulham to promotion in 2020 and relegation a year later. He now faces the prospect of repeating that cycle with Burnley, who are in serious danger of dropping out of the top flight.

"Clearly it's a tough challenge for us," Parker admitted. "A tough, tough challenge. But there's still games to play. I just said it in there, we don't have a choice in what we do. Sometimes in life when you don't have choices, they're the best solution. At times this year we've fallen a little bit short, clearly."

Despite the bleak situation, Parker praised his players' commitment. "There's one thing that we've not fallen short on – everything I ask of these boys when they step over the line, that full commitment in what has been a tough, tough year for us."

Youngster King Breaks His Duck

For Fulham, the match marked a special moment for teenage striker Josh King, who finally scored his first Premier League goal after having one wrongly disallowed by VAR against Chelsea back in August.

Silva was full of praise for the young talent. "It's something really special for him," said the Portuguese manager. "He's been working very hard. He's a big talent and a top young player. It was a great second half from him. He scored and I hope – and I know – that will be the first of many."

With the gap to safety potentially widening after Sunday's fixtures, Burnley face an enormous task to avoid relegation. Parker's men must now regroup quickly as they prepare for their final seven matches of a difficult campaign.
