Preston Forward Banned for Nine Matches in FA Racial Abuse Case

Preston North End striker Milutin Osmajic has been suspended from football for nine matches after an independent regulatory commission found him guilty of an aggravated breach of FA rules. The charge relates to an incident involving an alleged reference to colour and/or race during a Championship fixture against Burnley last season.

The Charge and Commission Findings

The Football Association brought the charge against Osmajic for a breach of FA Rule E3.1, which concerns improper conduct and the use of abusive or insulting words. The alleged incident took place during the match against Burnley FC on Saturday, 15 February of the previous season.

It was further alleged that this constituted an aggravated breach under FA Rule E3.2, as the language used included a reference – either express or implied – to colour and/or race. Osmajic had denied the charge, but the independent Regulatory Commission ultimately found it to be proven.

Sanctions Imposed on the Player

As a result of the ruling, the commission has imposed significant sanctions on the Preston player. The nine-match suspension is effective immediately, ruling Osmajic out of a significant portion of the season.

In addition to the ban, he has been handed a £21,000 fine and must complete a mandatory education course. The Regulatory Commission has confirmed that its full written reasons for the decision will be published at a later date.

This ruling underscores the Football Association's commitment to tackling discriminatory behaviour within the sport, with a strong stance taken on incidents involving racial abuse.
