Speaking after the game, De la Fuente did not mince words, stating emphatically: "I feel total and absolute repulsion towards any xenophobic or racist attitudes. They are intolerable." His strong rebuke came as chants mocking Muslims were clearly audible from sections of the crowd, a development that has sparked widespread concern within the football community.

The chants were particularly jarring given that Egypt is a predominantly Muslim nation. Adding to the sensitivity, Spain's own star player, Lamine Yamal, is also Muslim, highlighting the offensive nature of the supporters' behaviour.
