Texas Open Third Round Suspended Due to Severe Weather
The third round of the Texas Open has been officially suspended until Sunday following a significant delay caused by severe storms. Play was halted at 4.55pm local time after a six-hour interruption, disrupting the momentum of the PGA Tour event in San Antonio.
MacIntyre and Aberg Lead the Pack
Scot Robert MacIntyre, who entered Saturday with a commanding lead after rounds of 66 and 64, saw his advantage reduced from four shots to two over playing partner Ludvig Aberg. Through six holes of the third round, MacIntyre birdied the par-four fifth to reach 15 under par, while Aberg matched him with birdies on the first two holes and the fifth.
Ryder Cup teammates MacIntyre and Aberg now sit at the top of the leaderboard, setting up an intense battle as play resumes. The suspension means most of the third round will be completed on Sunday, adding pressure to the final day of competition.
Other Contenders in the Mix
Further down the leaderboard, Englishman Matt Wallace climbed into a share for third place at seven under through 14 holes, aided by two eagles. Japan's Ryo Hisatsune is also in contention at 11 under, while England's Marco Penge made a strong move with six consecutive birdies to share fifth place, one shot further back.
The Texas Open serves as the final tune-up before next week's Masters at Augusta, with notable absences including Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy, who chose not to participate in San Antonio.
