Wolves on the Brink of Premier League Relegation Ahead of Leeds United Match

Wolves are poised to see their eight-year tenure in the Premier League conclude imminently, following a disastrous 2025/26 campaign at Molineux. The Black Country club has languished at the bottom of the table for most of the season, and their fate could be sealed in the coming days.

Relegation Scenarios for Wolves This Weekend

Wolves travel to Elland Road to face Leeds United on Saturday afternoon. A defeat to Daniel Farke's side, combined with a Tottenham Hotspur victory over Brighton later that day, would mathematically confirm Wolves' relegation to the Championship. If Wolves manage to secure a draw or win against Leeds, their survival hopes could be temporarily extended until Monday evening, when West Ham United play Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Currently, Wolves sit at the bottom of the Premier League with only 17 points, having won just three matches all season. Their struggles began under former manager Vitor Pereira, who was dismissed in early November. He was replaced by Rob Edwards, the former Middlesbrough and Luton Town boss, in an attempt to salvage their top-flight status.

Rob Edwards' Impact and Team Improvements

Since taking charge, Edwards has overseen a slight upturn in form, including the club's first back-to-back victories of the season against Aston Villa and Liverpool in February and March. Reflecting on the improvements, Edwards highlighted key decisions made during the January transfer window.

"January was important. We made some bold decisions as a football club. We shortened the squad down, and everyone that remains has been part of it and involved, which has been good," Edwards explained. "It's the lads that go out there and do it, and we try to give them some structure and ideas, and they're the ones who implement it."

Despite these efforts, Wolves' long-term prospects remain bleak. The club has been in the Premier League since earning promotion under Nuno Espirito Santo in 2018, enjoying periods of success such as top-half finishes and a Europa League quarter-final run. However, they narrowly avoided relegation last season with a 16th-place finish, and this year's campaign has proven even more challenging.

Broader Relegation Picture in the Premier League

Wolves are not alone in their relegation battle. Burnley are also at risk of dropping into the Championship, sitting just three points above Wolves. Meanwhile, Coventry City have already secured promotion to the Premier League, ending their lengthy absence from the top flight.

As the season reaches its climax, Wolves fans face an anxious wait to see if their team can defy the odds or if their Premier League journey will come to an abrupt end this weekend.
