Georgia Hunter Bell Takes on Captaincy for Team GB at World Indoor Championships
Georgia Hunter Bell, aged 32, has been appointed as the captain of the Novuna Great Britain and Northern Ireland team for the 2026 World Indoor Championships in Torun, Poland. She is leading a 26-member squad in this prestigious international athletics event, bringing her extensive experience as an Olympic, World, and European medallist to the role.
A Decorated Athlete with a Storied Career
Hunter Bell is set to compete in the women's 1500m event on Saturday, aiming to secure a podium finish. Her recent achievements include winning a bronze medal at the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing last year, which was later upgraded to silver following a disqualification of another competitor. This upgrade highlights her consistent performance and resilience in the sport.
In a pre-competition speech to the team, Hunter Bell reflected on her personal journey and the significance of representing her country. "It feels special, especially because World Indoors was the first team I ever made for GB and NI two years ago," she said. "It's an honour as there are so many amazing athletes in the group that I take inspiration from."
Inspiring the Next Generation of Athletes
She emphasized the importance of cherishing such opportunities, drawing from her own experiences of stepping away from athletics and longing to compete again. "I wanted to impart that these opportunities are special. I know what it's like to walk away from athletics and wish that I were competing, so a reminder to just enjoy it all and seize the opportunity. As you never know what is going to happen in the future," Hunter Bell continued.
Her message to the squad was clear: embrace the moment and give it their all. "That is what I wanted the team to take away today, and just go for it." This leadership role not only showcases her athletic prowess but also her ability to motivate and guide fellow competitors on the global stage.
