BBC weather presenter Alex Osborne has resigned from her position after 16 years, moving to rival channel ITV. The meteorologist, who delivers forecasts for BBC South West, will depart the corporation at the end of next month.
Announcement on Social Media
On Wednesday, Alex posted on X: 'And the 'news' is.... I'm going to @ITV! Will be sad to leave after years at the BBC, but excited for the next chapter as a journalist... 4th May, my last day!'
Many followers responded with kind messages, including: 'Congratulations Alex hope the move goes well,' 'Best of luck in your new job. Making new memories with ITV,' and 'Good luck Alex! You’ll be fab at ITV!'
Career at the BBC
Alex joined the BBC in 2010 and held various roles. Initially, she worked as a live events showcase presenter, then as an assistant producer and researcher for BBC Radio 3. In 2013, she became a project and events coordinator for BBC Proms and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. She also served as a travel presenter and entertainment reporter for BBC Radio Devon in 2011, and worked as a production assistant for BBC Factual Television.
Recent Departures
Alex is not the first weather presenter to leave the BBC recently. Earlier this month, Carol Kirkwood delivered her final BBC Breakfast weather forecast after three decades, breaking down in tears. The 63-year-old announced her departure in January, citing a desire to spend more time with her husband, police officer Steve Randall. During her final broadcast on April 1, she received emotional tributes from colleagues including Sally Nugent, Jon Kay, and a video message from Bryan Adams.
