New Chinese Brand Lepas to Challenge Kia, Volvo, BMW in UK

Lepas, a new Chinese car brand owned by automotive giant Chery Automotive, is preparing to launch three new SUVs in the UK over the next 12 months. The brand is part of Chery's 'export strategy' programme, which creates marques specifically tailored for European markets, following the success of brands like Jaecoo and Omoda.

First Model: L8 Flagship SUV

The first model to arrive, in the third quarter of this year, is the L8, Lepas' flagship SUV. It features a plug-in hybrid powertrain combining a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor and an 18kWh battery pack, offering a claimed electric range of up to 55 miles.

Second Model: L6 Mid-Size SUV

The L6 mid-size SUV will follow, competing directly with the Kia Sportage. It will be available with petrol, hybrid, and electric powertrains. While details on the petrol version are scarce, the hybrid will use a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine paired with an electric motor, and the EV will feature a 67kWh battery pack with a claimed range of up to 270 miles.

Third Model: L4 Compact Crossover

Rounding off the lineup is the L4 compact crossover, set to take on the Volvo EX30 and BMW iX1 when it arrives next year. Lepas has confirmed an electric drivetrain for this model, though further specifications remain undisclosed.

More information about Lepas' SUV range is expected later this year, with orders anticipated to open shortly after.
