Fashion retailer Quiz has become the latest casualty on Britain's struggling high street, entering administration with immediate effect. The move has resulted in 109 redundancies across the company's head office and warehouse operations, with hundreds more jobs potentially at risk as administrators assess the future of the business.
Administrators Take Control of Quiz Operations
Administrators from Interpath have been appointed to oversee the fashion chain's affairs following its collapse. The professional services firm confirmed that 109 positions have been made redundant at Quiz's head office in Glasgow and its warehouse and distribution centre in Bellshill, Lanarkshire. These cuts represent a significant blow to the company's workforce, which totals 565 employees across all operations.
Stores Continue Trading During Administration Process
Despite the administration, Quiz's 40 stores across the United Kingdom and seven concessions in Ireland will continue to trade normally for the time being. Administrators have stated they intend to maintain store operations as a going concern while they evaluate potential options for the business. However, the company's website has been shut down as part of the administration process.
Alistair McAlinden, head of Interpath in Scotland and joint administrator, commented on the challenging retail environment: "With Quiz the latest retailer to fall into administration, there's no doubt it's been a tough start to 2026 for the UK high street. It's our intention to continue to trade all stores and the concessions in Ireland as a going concern for as long as we can while we assess options for the business."
Administrators Seek Potential Buyers for Business Assets
The administrators have issued an urgent call for interested parties to come forward regarding potential acquisition of Quiz's assets. Geoff Jacobs, fellow joint administrator and managing director at Interpath, emphasised: "Any parties with an interest in acquiring the stock, store operations and infrastructure of Quiz should contact us as a matter of urgency. We are ensuring that those employees impacted by redundancy are provided with all available support at this difficult time."
The collapse of Quiz represents another significant blow to the UK retail sector, which has faced numerous challenges in recent years including changing consumer habits, economic pressures, and increased competition from online retailers. The administration process will now determine whether the fashion chain can be rescued in some form or whether further store closures and job losses will follow.
