The new bookselling feature is powered by Bookshop.org, an online platform that enables customers to purchase books while supporting local independent bookshops. Spotify has explicitly stated that this tool is designed to allow users to discover books in audio format and then easily acquire them as physical copies. This initiative reflects a growing trend towards hybrid consumption, where digital and traditional media coexist and complement each other.
Strengthening the Literary Ecosystem
In its announcement, Spotify addressed potential concerns about disrupting traditional booksellers, emphasising that the partnership with Bookshop.org is intended to be additive rather than replacement. Introducing Page Match for Seamless Transitions
Alongside the bookselling feature, Spotify is launching an innovative tool called Page Match, aimed at enhancing the user experience when switching between physical and audiobook formats. With Page Match, users can scan a page from their physical book and be instantly directed to the corresponding point in the audiobook version. Conversely, while listening to an audiobook, they can be shown the exact page in the physical book that matches their current listening position.
