Dubai's world-renowned Jumeirah Burj Al Arab, often referred to as the world's only 'seven-star' hotel, is set to close its doors for an extensive 18-month refurbishment programme. The iconic sail-shaped landmark will shut from May 2026 until late 2027 to undergo a comprehensive restoration aimed at refreshing and upgrading its lavish interiors while preserving its unique character.
Refurbishment Details
The renovation plans include a complete redesign of all 198 suites, as well as upgrades to the hotel's spa and other facilities. French interior architect Tristan Auer has been appointed to lead the design, ensuring that the hotel's opulent aesthetic is modernised without losing its distinctive identity. The Burj Al Arab has been in continuous operation for over 25 years, and this refurbishment is intended to bring it up to the highest contemporary standards.
Recent Incidents and Travel Advice
In February 2026, the hotel sustained minor damage and a small fire after being struck by debris from an intercepted drone. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Meanwhile, the UK Foreign Office continues to advise against all but essential travel to the United Arab Emirates, including Dubai, due to regional tensions. Travellers are urged to check the latest travel advice before planning any visits.
The Burj Al Arab remains one of Dubai's most recognisable landmarks, and the refurbishment is expected to enhance its status as a symbol of luxury and innovation in the hospitality industry.
