UK's Top 50 Fish and Chip Takeaways Revealed in 2025 Fry Awards
Top 50 UK Fish and Chip Takeaways Unveiled

The nation's finest fish and chip establishments have been officially recognised, with the prestigious Fry Awards announcing its definitive list of the UK's top 50 takeaways and 10 best restaurants for 2025.

Secret Judges Sample Nation's Favourite Dish

The results, published by Fry Magazine on January 20, 2026, are the product of a rigorous, months-long undercover operation. Judges anonymously visited chippies across the country, meticulously scoring them on essential criteria including food quality, cleanliness, staff service, and value for money.

To earn a coveted spot on either list, establishments had to achieve an exceptionally high pass mark of 96% or above. This year marks the 13th edition of the awards, demonstrating the enduring popularity and competitive spirit within the UK's beloved fish and chip industry.

Coastal Gems and a London Standout

The elite top 10 restaurants showcase a strong coastal presence, with venues spanning from Devon to Glasgow. However, Toff's of Muswell Hill in London breaks the mould as the capital's sole representative in the restaurant category.

The full list of top 10 restaurants for 2025 is:

  • Catch, Giffnock, Glasgow
  • Eric's Fish and Chips, Hunstanton, Norfolk
  • Fish City, Belfast

Regional Champions Shine in Takeaway List

Yorkshire proved to be a particular powerhouse, securing seven entries in the top 50 takeaways, including notable names like Lighthouse Fisheries of Flamborough and Two Gates Fisheries. Essex also made a significant impact, with four of its takeaways earning a place among the best.

Reece Head, the competition organiser, commended the winners for their resilience. "Another year has passed and, once again, these shops have shown resilience, adapting to today's challenges with remarkable dedication," he said.

"At a time when inflationary pressures are being felt, these businesses continue to stay positive and prioritise their customers, maintain exceptional standards, and find innovative ways to keep fish and chips affordable."

He added that starting the year as an award winner sets a positive tone for 2025, highlighting that quality fish and chips can be enjoyed everywhere, from restaurants to mobile units.

The full alphabetical list of the 50 best takeaways includes shops from every corner of the UK, such as Ainsworth’s Fish & Chips in Caernarfon, Batterfly Fish & Chips in Surbiton, and Kirbys in Leeds.
