Amazon Delivery Driver Accused of Stealing Family Cat in Halifax Doorbell Footage

A family from the Halifax area has been left heartbroken and devastated after shocking doorbell camera footage allegedly captured an Amazon delivery driver stealing their beloved pet cat from their own doorstep. The incident, which occurred on Sunday afternoon, has prompted a police investigation and raised serious questions about contractor behaviour.

Footage Shows Alleged Theft in Broad Daylight

According to the family's account and visual evidence, the delivery driver approached their property while wearing distinctive yellow high-visibility clothing at approximately 2:30pm on Sunday, January 18. The doorbell footage reportedly shows the man lingering near the front door before crouching down and scooping up the family cat, named Nora, with one hand.

Carl Crowther, the cat's owner, described the moment his family reviewed the footage as one of total shock and disbelief. The driver allegedly placed Nora in his delivery vehicle before driving away from the residential area. Additional camera angles from a neighbour's property reportedly corroborate the distressing sequence of events.

Family's Desperate Search for Missing Pet

Mr Crowther explained that Nora typically remains very close to home, making her sudden disappearance particularly alarming. The family only discovered what had happened when they reviewed their security cameras after noticing her absence since Sunday lunchtime.

"We were devastated when we saw the driver lingering about waiting to seize his opportunity," Mr Crowther told local media. "Poor thing is on medication and has a heart murmur. The Amazon driver took a shine to her while delivering a parcel and just brazenly walked off with her."

The family has distributed the footage widely in hopes of being reunited with their pet, who requires ongoing medical attention for her heart condition.

Official Responses and Investigations Underway

The incident has been formally reported to both West Yorkshire Police and Amazon's corporate offices. Mr Crowther has provided doorbell footage and additional photographic evidence to both authorities to support the investigation.

Amazon confirmed they are investigating the serious allegations and have been in direct contact with both the affected family and police authorities. The retail giant clarified that the delivery driver in question was not directly employed by Amazon but worked for a subsidiary company that handles their delivery operations.

Regarding compensation, conflicting accounts have emerged. While Mr Crowther claimed Amazon offered monetary compensation that "isn't any good at this stage," an Amazon spokesperson denied this characterization, stating instead that the family had been referred to standard insurance protocols.

West Yorkshire Police have confirmed they are investigating the alleged theft and examining the provided footage as part of their ongoing inquiries into the disturbing incident.
