Three Men Face Trial Over Alleged Brighton Beach Rape Incident

Two men are accused of repeatedly raping a woman on Brighton beach while a third individual filmed the horrific incident, according to testimony presented to jurors. The alleged attack occurred in the early hours of October 4 last year, with the victim reportedly hearing laughter during the assault.

Details of the Alleged Attack Emerge in Court

Karin Al-Danasurt, 20, Ibrahim Alshafe, 25, and Abdulla Ahmadi, 26, are currently on trial at Hove Crown Court charged with raping the woman. The court heard that the complainant had become separated from her friends during a night out when she was approached by the three defendants.

Prosecutor Hanna Llewellyn-Waters told jurors that the woman was "intoxicated" and "to all intents and purposes, incapacitated" at the time of the alleged rapes. "She was repeatedly abused for their sexual gratification and entertainment," Ms Llewellyn-Waters stated. "They wanted sex and that could be achieved by being with someone who was in no state to resist them."

Filmed Incident and Disturbing Details

Al-Danasurt is accused of filming the alleged rapes and subsequently sending the recordings to Ahmadi's phone. The prosecution alleges that although the complainant could not definitively state whether Al-Danasurt also raped her, he was present and "fully aware of what was happening."

"His presence and actions served to encourage the commission of those rapes by his co-defendants," Ms Llewellyn-Waters told the court. "Footage retrieved from his telephone shows that he filmed the complainant being raped by Alshafe and Ahmadi."

The woman reported to police that she recalled being spat on, kicked, and having her throat grabbed during the alleged rapes. She also remembered hearing men laughing during the traumatic experience.

Aftermath and Defendant Backgrounds

Following the alleged assault, the complainant "crawled off the beach" and was captured on CCTV coming up the ramp to the esplanade alongside Alshafe. The prosecutor revealed that Google Translate entries on Alshafe's phone showed him telling the woman to "unlock it," presumably referring to her phone, to which she responded by telling him to "f*** off."

At the time of the alleged offences, all three defendants knew each other and were residents at the Cisswood House Hotel in Horsham, West Sussex. This establishment was Home Office-approved accommodation for asylum seekers.

Charges and Pleas

Ahmadi, an Iranian national living in Crewe, Cheshire, and Alshafe, an Egyptian national residing in Horsham, have each denied two counts of raping the woman. Al-Danasurt, also an Egyptian national living in Horsham, faces joint charges on all four counts of rape as a secondary party for allegedly "encouraging the rape by his actions at the scene, including filming it."

Al-Danasurt has pleaded not guilty to all four rape charges and additionally denies a fifth count of "sharing intimate films" without the complainant's consent. The trial continues at Hove Crown Court, with jurors expected to view the alleged footage during proceedings.
