Bruce Springsteen made a powerful on-stage statement about Donald Trump following the assassination attempt at the White House Correspondents' Dinner over the weekend, offering a prayer for the president despite their ongoing feud.
Springsteen's On-Stage Prayer
Addressing the incident during his Land Of Hope And Dreams tour on Sunday, April 26, Springsteen said: "We begin tonight with a prayer for our men and women in service overseas, we pray for their safe return. We also send out a prayer of thanks that our president, nor anyone in the administration, nor anyone attending, was injured at last night’s incident at the press correspondents’ dinner."
The 76-year-old rocker continued: "We can disagree. We can be critical of those in power, and we can peacefully fight for our beliefs, but there is no place in any way, shape, or form for political violence of any kind in our beloved United States."

On Saturday night, shots were fired outside the White House Correspondents' Dinner at the Washington Hilton. Donald Trump, Melania Trump, and other senior administration officials were rushed to safety by Secret Service agents as guests took cover under tables.
History of Feud
Springsteen has been a vocal critic of Trump for years. In September 2016, he called Trump a "moron" in a Rolling Stone interview, stating: "The republic is under siege by a moron, basically. The whole thing is tragic. It’s a tragedy for our democracy."
In 2025, Springsteen used his stage to criticize the administration, saying: "There’s some very weird, strange, and dangerous s**t going on out there right now. In America, they are persecuting people for using their right to free speech."
In 2024, he endorsed Kamala Harris for president and performed at one of her rallies. He has also previously called for Trump's impeachment.
Trump has responded by calling Springsteen "mentally ill" and comparing him to a "prune." On Truth Social, Trump wrote: "Bad, and very boring singer, Bruce Springsteen, who looks like a dried up prune... The guy is a total loser who spews hate against a President who won a Landslide Election."
